not sure what the roads are like in texas but in some parts of the country they eat your tires..

The hard rock in the pittsburg area.. and the sharp pavement in parts of Florida come to mind

obviously vehicle weight also plays a major part as well as tire size.

I have about 10K on the tires now (been rotated/balanced once at 6K) and they have worn 1/32" on the front and 2/32" on the rear. I had a slight vibration that went away with the last balancing. We had the truck in CO over the NY holiday in some moderate to heavy snow in Estes Park/RMNP and the tires handled beautifully there as well as in the last deluge that we had in Houston.

So far, I am very pleased with these tires, not sure if the wear will be lateral (hopefully not exponential), but they are on track for about 60-65K if wear remains the same. The whine has not increased or decreased, but it is not a bother.

After I had the Michelin's installed, I had an alignment performed on the truck and will scan/post a picture of the before/after results. It was only out on one tire a very slight amount, not worth changing and would not cause abnormal wear (the mechanic groaned when I said to align it anyway). So, I am not sure what happened on the Scorpions or why they wore on the inside tracks so much.

Anyway, so far the Michelin's are great!

The Scorpions just wear abnormally. Mine sure did. The Michelin's just are a way better tire.

Just put a set of the LTX M/S2 tires on my 2004 Toyota Tundra 2WD today, replacing a set of BFG Rugged Trail T/A tires with 45k miles. Much improved driving experience so far, even compared to when the BFG's were new.

The only downside is the cost, but it looks like this is a case of you pay for what you get. I remember saving a couple hundred dollars on the BFG's a few years ago as compared to buying the LTX M/S2 tires, but looks like there is no comparison. Time and mileage will tell though, but everyone with these Michelins are usually very happy with them.

Friends of ours ask me about tires often for their vehicles and have been very happy with the ones that I have recomended.

Although, for their '07 Honda Pilot AWD, they never seem to be completely satisfied with the tires that I have recomended, from OE(Bridgestone Dueller) to other makes. I was reading tire reviews on Honda Pilot AWD(reviews of owners in similar climates), and more and more people didn't really like any tire on those SUV's until I got to the Michelin LTX M/S 2's. I think that this is the tire that I'll recomend for their Pilot next time, which could be soon!

When I bought my Daughter's 1999 Accord it had Bridgestones on it. The left front wore horribly on the inside. I rotated to get as much life out the set as I could and just figured I'd align it when I replaced the tires.

Put Hydroedges on it and go to get it aligned, the alignment shop says all is in spec and charges me $30 to check it. He says Accords are almost always in alignment. I told him about the bad wear on the previous tires and he said its on.

So the Bridgestones wore horribly like the alignment was way off and the Michelins are wearing normally with any changes in alignment settings. The Bridgestones seemed like OK tires except for the uneven wear. Bridgestones aren't on my shopping list.

cant really compare different tires.. has to be the same model.. sometimes even the same speed rating.. or the comparison is flawed.

If everyone rated michelins by the oem energy savers people wouldnt like them so much.

** 2nd Update **

I now have about 21,000 on the tires and I am still quite happy with them. They are wearing really well and hold a balance easily.

Handling in the rain, mud, rocks, and snow has been excellent. The whine never did really go away, but overall, it is no worse than the Scorpions that I had previously.

I would say that anyone who is looking for a good tire should not hesitate to consider these Michelins.

How are these off road? I do mostly highway but I like my AT for winter, hunting, and the farm. Do they handle mud well or are they just ok?

They handle mud and wet grass reasonably well. I pulled out a buddy's Chevy 4x4 that was stuck (he had BFG A/T's and was trying to pull out his brother's truck when he got stuck) with my Expedition on muddy, wet grass with basically zero tire spin.

Mine do OK, they are not Traction TA's but they are pretty good.

My experience is that the tread wear slows as the tire wears. The tread blocks are shorter so there is less tread squirm, and the rubber has hardened so it wears more slowly (at the possible expense of some traction).

I just drove our friends '07 Honda Pilot since I had remcomended the LTX M/S 2's(I have a post on this). A HUGE difference over the 2 sets of OE Bridgestones Duelers the KUMHO KR-21's.

I don't think the '07 Pilot felt this good when it was new, no lie!. Our friends both agree. Makes me feel like removing the G/Y ATC's and putting on the LTX M/S 2' on my wifes RX-300. I won't yet, too much tread remaining!

I think they would be just "ok"; they handle the rocky terrain of Colorado without any problems, but in heavy mud, I think they would suffer. There is an LTX A/T2 version that is better suited for off road use; even Michelin rates the A/T2 higher than the MS/2 for off road use.

I have found the LTX M/S to excel in snow and light off-road use. It's a heavily-siped tire, similar to how snow tires are heavily-siped, so that seems to make sense. The newer M/S2 seems to be even more heavily-siped, so it'd likely do even better.

It will not be a optimal for heavy mud or slippery off-road use. It doesn't have the biting edges that other tires do, and the tread pattern is not really a good self-cleaning pattern for use in thicker mud. It'd work okay in completely dry terrain though, such as out west.

I believe the LTX M/S (and now M/S2) is one of, if not the, best line of tires Michelin has ever made. They're one of the few tires that just seem to do everything well (with reason).

I have the E-Rated 245/75/16 LRR (low rolling resistance) tires on my van. I pulled a Silverado out of a lake, up an incline, or wet tall grass using my 2wd van, and didn't leave a mark on the grass. No wheelspin, no drama.

I love these tires to death. My van can do things that no van its size and weight should be able to do in terms of handling, braking, fuel economy, and all weather traction. Wearing like iron despite the fact that there's a New Yorker at the wheel.

I have a solid 30K on the tires (I am at DT having them rotated and balanced as I type). I am EXTREMELY impressed with these tires--after 30K (with towing in there) they have only worn 2/32" (11/32 out of 13/32 remaining).

They are definitely on track to exceed the 70K stated life by Michelin. Absolutely worth the money and I was a skeptic to say the least after the OEM set on my Azera was gone after 22K. I have come to the conclusion that OEM tires basically suck no matter what the brand and should not be used to judge the overall brand.

The tires have been great on wet, dry, and snow covered surfaces. Handling and ride continue to be superb and the noise factor has reduced somewhat.

Purchase without reservation...they are great!

How is the on-road handling of the LTX?
