I own a '99 Mercedes, which was covered by this suit. A little info. The suit was brought by a guy in Pennsylvania. After it was thrown out by the courts, he altered his cause of action and refiled in PA state court. After it was thrown out by the court, he refiled in NJ, and finally won his case. The settlement for members of the class amounted to a $35 certificate good towards an oil change at your local Mercedes dealer (like you could ever get out of the service department for less than $350). The lawyers got 40% of the settlement. Incidentally, the original complainant was also the lawyer in the action.

Know why everyone was crying at the end of Erin Brokovitch? Because the lawyers got all the money.
