Back in my working days at IBM,CSC corp, Fina oil etc. I wore kinda my vs of corp suit clothes....this was 1990 to 2015.....I wore Brooks Bros dress white or blue shirts most everyday plus tie....and a blue blazer i got at Macy's or I had a few off the rack suits bought at Dillards or Macys. I had one custom suit made in NYC back in 96 i think that cost me like 1200 bucks dark blue light wool blend....and most days just dockers or RL polo pants....IBM gave us lots of golf shirts to wear....I did not have to use a tie anymore which was great.
Im way to fat to wear them now so i gave most all to charity a few months ago...
I noticed now the skin tight fit of the suits and high water pants that make your feet look like gun boats aint a good look to me.....plus the coats all look so tight if i moved my arms the sleeves would rip.
I liked my loose fit button down BB cotton shirts but they are getting hard to find.....ive been looking for a funeral suit cause thats all i goto now.
Back in early 90's i was 34 waist 36 long at 6'3 and 180 pounds.
Now im 272 pounds and 6 ft ......ive shrunk.
I had planned to shop some today but feel like crap.....so i will go another date .....but its getting hard to find a suit that what Rodney Dangerfield called the regular guy look...kinda baggy pants thats easy to stick your hand down to pull boxers out of crack type...about 6 weeks ago i tried on some pants...my GF could not stop laughing at how dumb i looked till i looked at myself. This skinny suit look aint for old people ....

Have a tailor make you a suit with 2 slacks.

You wont pay anymore, you might pay less and what you get will be 100% your body.

I haven't bought an off the rack suit in 30 years of business tradeshows.

I use an indian family (Ash Samtani) out of hong kong - His son Luc travel around the world and when he in a local big city and I need something I go there.

Why do you need a suit for a funeral? The person being honored doesn't care.
Every man needs a suit for attending weddings, funerals, funeral home visitation. At the minimum a suit and a good sport coat and slacks. At least a sport coat and slacks. Its just a matter of respect for yourself and the departed family. Shows class.

I don't have expensive suits, but i have a couple, and a couple of sport coats. Probably 20 neckties lol.

Unfortunately, not all men set a good example for their sons to know/follow.

One on my son's friends asked if he could come to my sons wedding in shorts. We let him know if he arrived in shorts, the best man would escort him out, and ask him to leave.

You're having trouble finding a suit that fits because most suits now are imported from Asia, India or Mexico and they are tailored to fit younger people. When men's suits were made in the USA, you could find plenty of traditional fit suits, even from foreign designer labels. Now I think the closest you can get to a traditional fit is at Men's Wearhouse. In the Philadelphia area, I used to like Fleet's since Boyd's was too rich for my wallet.

could not have said it better myself....showing up at a funeral in jeans or shorts you look like some jackass

And most suits being sold in N America are for those folks who are originally from those areas (immigrants).
I agree with the other suggestion of simply getting one custom made.
It may cost a little more, but it'll be worth it.

Your dress ascribes importance to the event. You pay your respects by being respectful.

The person who died won’t care, but the family will get the message.

Showing up poorly dressed for a funeral sends the message, “this event is unimportant”.

And, quite clearly, that’s what you think of the person as well.

The only ones who get a pass on properly dressing to pay your respects are children under two.

I'm not saying shorts and flip flops, although that is common at Florida funerals, but smart casual as in slacks, golf shirt and not tennis shoes. That's pretty much what I wore to the only two I've been to in the last 10 years for two neighbors that died. It's how you treated the person when they were alive that counts, not how you look, after.

Men's Warehouse or Joseph A. Bank. They'll have lots of options in the "Traditional Fit" which is what you'd likely be looking to wear. Also, you can get yourself measured and purchase a suit either online or in-store at Destination XL. Men's Warehouse or Jos A. Bank would be the cheaper option, however. They routinely have suits for under $200, or close to it. They're cheap suits, and you get what you pay for, but it's a hard price to beat for a handful of uses per year.

How you treat the person when they were alive counts, of course.

But so does how you treat the family in their bereavement.

You‘ve previously given advice, like storing tires in the bathtub, that isn’t appropriate for the preponderance of social situations.

So, I would caution anyone in the market for a suit to consider the source of the advice on whether a suit is needed, before making a determination.

That's one of the problems in this country. People worrying too much about what other people will think, and getting validation from, and basing self worth on, what other people think. That's why some people drive a new BMW and Mercedes every year to impress their friends and neighbors, yet have nothing saved for retirement. Or spend $20,000 on a wedding or funeral that nobody remembers 3 months later. As for storing tires in an unused bathtub? So what? If aunt Betty thinks it's odd, too bad.

I agree 100%, how you treated them in life matters. Now it matters how you treat the family. The family will sense your honor for them and the departed by your dress.

You do you. But I would be too embarrassed to show up not dressed for the dignity of the occasion. If you would not wear a suit to a funeral or wedding, what event would you wear a suit ?
There are certain manners/ social graces that I will never give up , will never stop. My son has the same sense of social manners , that I'm glad rubbed off on him. Some of them are southern gentlemen's type manners that despite current norms, we will not give up.

Get a half canvas suit if you want something comfortable. I had a cheap suit, tailored to fit properly, but it wasn't as comfortable as my current suit which has half canvas construction.

I can imagine if atikovis house caught on fire and made the news. Tires burning inside, motor oil, mattress stuffed with cash... .

Brooks Brothers has sales every now and then on their 1818 suits that are close to a buy one, get one free. They have several different fits from traditional to slim. I don't own any of their suits but I do several of their dress shirts which I like.

Samuelsohn is running close to a 50% off sale and I saw Hickey Freeman running a similar sale on select suits. Both made in Canada of Italian cloth, and good quality full or half canvassed, which is far better than fused. I bought a Samuelsohn and it's at the tailor now getting final alterations as they come unfinished. If you don't know your jacket size, go to a store and find out, then order either the Samuelsohn or Hickey Freeman. The rest can be altered fairly easily but you want to get the jacket fit correct.
