So my wife and I recently purchased our first home after 2 years in the dorms and 4 in apartments. I'm thrilled to say that I finally have a garage! Because of this I'm finally taking the time and money to invest in some tools. Nothing crazy, i.e. SnapOn, Matco, etc.

I've found that Husky and Kobalt aren't actually half bad for a DIYer. Unfortunately I'm not really a fan of Lowes and Home Depot, I do however love Menard's. Problem is that their tools just aren't very good in my experience. Their Tool Shop brand is an absolute joke and Master force isn't too far behind. Honestly, I think Pittsburgh is on average higher quality. Anyone else disappointed with the tool selection at Menard's?

Menards also has Stanley tools. Certainly not professional quality, but a step up from the really cheap stuff.

Menards has never really been known for carrying any high quality brands, but most of what they carry is adequate for the typical DIYer.

BTW, they're currently doing their 11% rebate sale.

I was actually just looking at these Crescent wrenches today, haven't ever heard of anyone using them so was a bit apprehensive about purchasing.

The Masterforce hard line tools (wrenches, sockets, ratchets) are all made in the USA by Apex tools. They're basically the same as the old USA-made Craftsman. Good, basic tools. They don't have as big of a selection as they used to, but they're going to be fine tools for a DIY'er. I would get a better ratchet, though.

The screwdrivers are all rebranded Pratt-Read. Again, good, basic choices.

The Masterforce pliers are all imported.

They also sell cheaper brands of tools.

Took advantage of the rebate today actually, the house needed a storm door so decided to pull the trigger today.

I think that a lot of their tools fall into the "buy if you use it occasionally" category.
I have a Kobalt mechanics tool set from lowes, but I would have no problem with a Masterforce set. If I was using these tools daily, I'd look at them differently. And, yes, I do love the store. The tool selection is decent, but could use improvement.

My main set of tools is Matco, but I've purchased some of their Masterforce hand tools in the past that I've caught on sale. American-made, average quality, lifetime warranty and if somebody would happen to permanently walk off with them, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Sometimes their sets might be missing a wrench or two. For example, the set might jump up from the 5/8 to the 3/4 and the 11/16 would be left out...from the factory. Still, the single wrenches are reasonable if you need to complete the set.

A home improvement store that still sells American-made tools at reasonable prices? That exists still? If they sell the basics, get those and augment with other stuff as necessary.

Hmm maybe I'll have to take another look at Masterforce. Seems like a lot of you have decent experience with the line.
