Meguiar's Gold Class SupremeShine Microfiber - Y/N

Hey all:

Had one of those "ultra gentle" furry wash mitts that I got from Walmart, and it kept leaving hairs in my trim, and after only 5 washes, it had rotted to pieces IN SPITE OF taking really good care of it.

So, I went to Pep Boys last night, and bought the above mentioned "towel". It says it is Microfiber, which I know is good, but I also know that there are more types of microfiber than I would ever care to figure, and that some are bad. What are your opinions of using it as a wash rag? It has a satin edge all of the way around it, and it says it is clearcoat safe.

And, if this is not good enough, what would you all recommend that could be found retail and not cost an arm and a leg? This thing was a little over $4 out the door...

Looking forward to hearing your opinions.

BTW, the part number on the back is X2010.

Not the cheapest but a sheepskin wash mitt is arguably the safest to use when washing. Microfiber towels are for removing waxes, sealants, quick detailers, etc. The idea is to suspend the dirt in the mitt until it can be rinsed free. The MF towels just don't have enough nap to accomplish this, the dirt that's removed stays right on the surface of the towel and is rubbed back into the paint....marring is inevitable.

That is what I had that was horrible. The hairs kept getting caught in trim and sometimes even yanked out, and the thing rotted in spite of being well cleaned, wrung out and suspended to dry.

Don't use a microfiber towel for washing. Use a QUALITY sheepskin or cotton chenille mitt.

I've used both Meg's sheepskin & cotton chenille wash mits. I like them both but I like the sheepskin more.

Yep, 100% cotton chenille or lambwool mitts are the way to go. Viking brand wash mitts are excellent. You can find them at O'Reillys. NAPA also sells a nice 100% cotton chenille mitt for about $8.00.

I doubt it was sheepskin. More than likely a lesser material.

What does the skin type have to do with the hairs pulling out? And it said it was sheepskin. So, how do I know what to believe?

It has to do with the type and length of the fibers. A MF towel, even the two sided ones, can not safely remove the crud from the surface of the paint without reapplying it during the next stroke. Go to some of the major detailing forums for more information than you can digest in a month.

Are you familiar with the two bucket wash?
Do you know the difference between a polish, a wax, a glaze, and a final finishing product?

If not you owe it to yourself to investigate further....The wash mitt that fell apart was a rag! If you desire quality you must pay for it.

You bought the right thing but it appears the quality just wasn't there. Try buying one from any of the online detail product vendors.

Well, I gave up on the mitts, and bought a Meguiars Versa-Angle Wide Body Brush for my cleaning needs. I will probably get to use it today and will report back with my results...

Well, the brush was awesome. No stupid hairs sticking in my trim, a nice thorough scrub, and the brush held tons of soap in it. The car looked cleaner than the wash mitt could ever do, and I ended up drier at the end of the cleaning, too.

No more wash mitts for me...
