Daughter just purchased a 97 Honda Civic 1.6 that's in great shape and just thought I'd ask everyone what would be your choice of oil. She drives in city traffic and a few 50+ mile trips a month. I am a big advocate of MC blend but have heard good things about MC5K.
Thoughts?

Motorcraft is a fantastic dino oil

off topic: AAP has 10w30 Motorcraft Syn blend on clearance for $0.95
When we still had or 1998 Civic I used any brand 30 weight oil, that Civic engine will last a long time with just basic maintenance.

What did she buy: DX, LX, EX, HX ???

Both have shown themselves to be solid choices for oil. Use which ever cheaper at the time you're purchasing oil.

Do you know what the OCI is going to be?

At work ( O Reillys ) its currently a 1.99 per quart for MC5k or Havoline. Either would be fine in that car as far as dino goes. Around here you can get MC syn blend for about 2.95 per quart and if its not an issue of pinching pennies I would run the syn blend over the straight dino in any car.

At O'Reilly's buy the Mobil Clean 5k for $1.99 a quart. That's less than $10 for an oil change and you have probably the best dino oil in the world.

Other than that, I'd say the Motorcraft is a better oil than the MC5k and if you can get it for the same price or cheaper, it's probably the better option.

You have your eye on two very very fine oils and either way you go this car will last and last.

Buy on price. You can't go wrong with either one. Motorcraft is a top conventional as is MC5k. I happen to be partial to Mobil now but would not hesitate to use MC. The can be purchased for less dollars than the other majors right now.

I think the Motorcraft blend would be my choice if I didn't care about the price difference. However, I have a stash of both MC and MC5K... so I like 'em both!

does the "synthetic" content of the motorcraft oil set it aside as being superior to the mobil option?(or any other conventional for that matter)

does the synthetic allow motorcraft to be run longer or should it keep the engine cleaner? or does the synthetic in the motorcraft simply give better low temp performance?

Good questions

Are we talking about rappers here?

The good news is you can't lose. But I'd try both starting with the MC 5W-20 blend...
