2008 was a changeover... Some Euro4 engines were with DPFs some were without...

Hi
No DPF on my 2008, Austrian built Jeep made for UK market. Bizarrely though the jeep commander, which is mechanically identical, were fitted with DPF.

I had a very interesting thread where various oils for non DPF engine were discussed. Some argued the MB229.51 and other C3 oils were the ones to use and others argued for heavy duty E7 E9.

My 2012 SLK55 AMG requires 229.5. Is the Pennzoil Euro LX 229.52 going to be compatible? (Still having trouble finding an answer to this) THANKS!

Hi Mike.
Very nice car you have there.

The Pennzoil does list MB229.5 in the list of specifications. https://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/products/full-synthetic-motor-oils/pennzoil-platinum-euro.html

I do not think you will struggle to find a good quality MB229.5. May be worth 0w-40 considering your climate.

Hopefully Edyvw will be along to help out. He is pretty clued up on Euro oils.

Thanks very much Tikka! This is my first day on this forum officially .... ((although I've lurked here for quite a while....lol))

It will be. It is excellent oil, especially for your climate. I would run 7,500km and then do used oil analysis to see where TBN is. But as far as I know Canada moved to max 10ppm sulfur level on 01/2020, so you should not have an issue with 229.51 or .52.

Thanks for the info edyvw ! I really appreciate your expertise and knowledge. I will take your advice on getting an oil analysis after 7,500kms. But for now, the AMG is settling down for a long winter's nap.....but will be awakened in the spring! Thanks again!!

I’m actually in the same boat as you I have an n55 engine and was using dealer oil only 0w30 however I since my warranty is over I wanted to go after market but stick to 0w30 however finding an oil that was 229.5 or Ll-01 in a 0w30 format was next to impossible but edyvw advised that I could run it and I have change to oil to 0w30 thinking about getting an oil analysis done but so far so good I suppose just nervous almost thinking of switching to 0w40 Mobil1 and calling it a day

I would not use M1 0W40FS in N55. It is loaded with sulfated ash which is not best choice for direct injection engines. I use it, but N52 is port injected.
Castrol 0W40 will do.
Castrol 0W30 will do.
Pennzoil 0W30 LX
Mobil1 ESP 0W30 will do (I have it in my Tiguan now).

That’s odd on another thread you stated that 0w40 Mobil 1 would be fine to use on the n55 or pen 0w30 🤔 for the N55

Yes, M1 0W40 is OK. But, in light of other oils available, I would go Castrol 0W30 or 0W40.
As for LX, it is exceptional oil, but I would still do UOA at some point to see how it is holding on. When I wrote this I completely forgot that sulfated ash level in 0W40 is very high, not thinking about the fact that N55 is direct injection. I use it bcs. I go to track, it has really strong additive package, it is basically track capable. But, my N52 is port injected.

Sorry for being annoying what does UOA mean ? Thanks again for the guidance and mentoring so far in the world of motor oil !

Used Oil Analysis...UOA
Virgin Oil Analysis....VOA

Dont worry....I have the same problems here when reading BITOG...it seems to me that there over the pond (USA)....lives one nation wich just love to use abbervations all the time...

LOL :D

Thank you bud appreciate it :)

MB229.5 like several million light years.
But, the question is: what vehicle you need oil for?
Kia 1.6 T-GDI.
Very satisfied with SHU 5w30 API SN-plus A3/B4.
However was thinking if API SP/GF6 / D1g2 are good standards, then the reduced viscosity would be a bonus.
