That's not a great analogy, since the floppy could be readily formatted to work on any of those systems. Try to play a Betamax tape in a VHS VCR and see how far you get in comparison, LOL!


Most DCC players would play analog cassettes too, but I gave up.

Similarly you cannot play Betamax ED tapes in a Betamax player. Not only are the video signals completely incompatible, but the media will destroy the heads.

I think it would be awesome if Mazda came out with a Skyactiv VHS tape and revived the vcr industry. Highly compressed video, 20+ hours on a single tape... the tape spools would be triangular instead of round, to resemble a wankel engine rotor. Dude, that would be so cool.

Oh and JVC already built a VCR that holds 4 hours of HDTV or 60 hours of standard def. That was circa 2000. It's a shame the movie people sued JVC and killed it (the VCR was sold, but not allowed to include HD tuner).
