Hi all.

Just bought a new oil filter for my Mazda with a 1.8 mzr engine. Apparently they changed it since the last time. The parts guy said it is because they now share filter with the new skyactive engines. The new filter is made in Japan. the old ones was made in the UK.

I was wondering if someone here knew who manufactorer the new Mazda oem filters.

Have a nice weekend.

I am curious too as I ordered several of these for my Mazda 2 (non-Skyactiv). Mine came sealed with plastic on the top and the boxes had a drain plug washer taped to the top of each box, no doubt added by the dealer.

That filter crosses with the LF05-14-302b which is used on the non-SkyActiv vehicles. The SkyActiv filter is PE01-14-302A. Someone at your dealer is feeding you a huge line of bull.

Well.. I have no reason to believe he is lieing. Also I saw a mechanic use one for a 3 skyactive.

The reason different filters are specified might be that skyactive engines in Europe and in the US are not 100% the same.

He's not lying, that's the filter for the Skyactiv diesel
(SH engine code). It's interesting because I was just thinking about this the other day; "since the new Sky-G oil filter is the same size as the old Mazda 1.6 filter (the diminutive 6609 Fram equiv), then what would they possibly use on the diesel, surely not that little thimble" and this thread answers- a new SHY1 filter, which appears to be 7317 size equivalent--- EXCEPT if it screws onto your MZR, then it's a 3/4 - 16 thread, whereas the Sky-G is an M20 1.5 thread, like all other Mazda engines. Interesting that they would use different threading between Sky-G and D - but perhaps to prevent the PE01 puny Sky-G filter from ending up on a diesel
