I wonder what it would do in a Mazda 6 platform passenger van. I find the Mazda 5 to be a Mazda 3 with a big trunk end...not really suitable for full sized people.

A diesel powered passenger van that gets great mpgs would set a new standard for others.

Honestly though I would be happy if it actually made it to North America...it would be refreshing to have some other players, maybe that would spark some Toyota or Honda diesels to follow suit.

It looks as if the initial 2014 6 will be released in January with the 2.5 gas engine with the diesel to follow in the summer.

My brother has an old Mazda Protege getting ready to turn 200k that he is planning to dispose of within the next year. I'm going to try steering him towards the diesel 6 for his next vehicle.

If I was in the market for a new car, this one would get serious consideration from me.

The fuel savings are essentially a wash, will probably take 150k miles to break even at current fuel prices. However, the amount of torque is going to be very impressive, this is replacing the thirsty V6s (which would cost 3-4k more and you would NEVER break even).

Makes me have a little buyers remorse on my 2012 6 now...
