I think that the Mazda 5 would have the old Ford Duratec engine, wouldn't it?
Not sure whether a '13 Mazda 6 would be running a SkyActiv engine or the same Duratec as the 5.
The OP's CX-5 engine would definitely be Mazda's SkyActiv-G engine.

As a Mazda technician, I can say that the 2013 Mazda 6 w/ 4 cylinder has the MZR 2.5L, the CX-5 has the skyactiv-g 2.5L. the manual for the cx-5 calls for 4.8 quarts. That will usually put the dipstick right in the center. I put an even 5 quarts in all of the 2.5 skyactiv-g non turbo engines. I haven't run in to any of them being difficult to read the stick. You are reading it on level ground with the engine at operating temperature 10 minutes after shutting it off?
Nickel or chrome plate might make oil level be easier to see.

When I had dealings with the Mazda dealership, they mention both as being Skyactive. But, neither engine is labeled as such anywhere that I can see. The 5 says VVT. So, I imagine it is just their printouts stating generalities.
How might I determine what the actual engines are? I would like to be able to answer this question in the future.

The early engines didn’t say SkyActiv on the engine cover as far as I know. Those covers were the blue center with black edges. Later on they went to all black and it says SkyActiv right on top.
I would think there would be a SkyActiv Technology badge on the rear of the vehicle? Regarding the Mazda5, that was not SkyActiv.
