2020 CX5 oil capacity discrepancy

Update:

The 1/8” over the full mark bothered me so I drained out .3 qts from the drain plug when cold into a measuring/mixing cup. With nitrile gloves, and cold, no mess and easier than I thought it would be.

Now reads 1/8” below the full mark on level ground when hot after 10 minute shut down.

It was driven 118 miles while overfilled. Should have drained the extra sooner!

Future changes will get 5.0-5.2 qts max.

Automotive OCD can be a pain sometimes!

Remember those 5.2 quart jugs you could buy at one time? That would be perfect here!

I’m changing oil on a 2018 CX-5, non-turbo. Spec’d oil qty with filter change is 4.5 litres IIRC. Followed that a time or two, then found oil level was at or below the low mark on dipstick. From then on have been doing 5.0 litres, carefully measured with a calibrated pitcher, and even then dipstick shows oil barely midway between the two dipstick marks. It’s not burning any so far so going with that for now.

Yes they usually take around 5.4L to the full mark in my experience.

Man you arent kidding zfasts about Automotive OCD being a pain LOL .. you think youre bad? Im sitting here reading everyones comments simply because i think i slightly overfilled my oil changed today on my CX5!!

My little story: 2024 CX30 2.5T. 1st oil change, the manual calls for 5.1 Qt with filter. I put 5.0 Qt in and called it good. 1500 mi later driving on the interstate, the low oil light came on. Not oil pressure, oil level. Pulled over at a gas station and let it set for a few and pulled the stick. It was right at the low level. Pretty embarrassing. I added oil to bring it up to the full mark (< 1 Qt) and monitored for the remaining 3500 mi. No drop, which eased my mind. At the 10K oil change I added 5 Qt and checked the oil. Just off the add line, the stick isn't the best with clean oil. It actually took closer to 5.5 Qt. to bring it to the full line. Now reads just a hair over full hot. I believe in my case it's a combination of the manual listing slightly under, and the design of the stick not giving a clean reading. I'm not sure the low vs. high marks are 1 qt. I'm 64 years old and don't recall ever having this happen

I probably put at least 5.5 quarts in mine. I use the Rhino Ramps and leave the plug out for a while so maybe the angle helps drain more out as I'm definitely in the 5.5-6 quart range on my 21 turbo CX-5.
