Maybe drape your EV car in the garage with this fire blanket.

If boeing and airbus can run lithum mg packs as per their electrified architecture at FL410, cant the best minds in the ev game figure out something else?

Or is this just cost cutting at its finest.
I don’t know about cost cutting, just maybe never actually increasing costs to that level. Pretty much the same thing though.

To be honest I’m sure there’s an explanation of why. I’d be curious to hear it.

Illinois now requires any new construction to include the ability to charge. I think non EV owners should be getting a discount. And what about all those ebikes and eboards charging up all the time in the bedrooms?

If I call the fire department it use to be a $500 charge. But that was years ago. Wonder what it is now?
I’d have to avoid an HOA and bring my Lincoln welder 😷
(can’t waste that hookup) …

The risk of fire is part of the reason that I buy only genuine Makita and Milwaukee batteries.

No knockoffs.

The Makita charger includes cooling for the batteries as they charge. A fan blows air through the battery to manage temperature.
Nice - I have a shelf with batteries and chargers and put a smoke detector right above it … extinguisher is 8’ away … I unplug them as they go green … No rapid chargers … Nothing docked if we are gone …

I use one of those small cell/wifi hotspots for my internet service. First was a Verizon one and I left it plugged in all the time. After a year it swelled up. Had to go to a charge timer set up. Since then no problems. The laptop I use everyday is plugged in whenever it's on with a battery at 100%. Anything else is charged then unplugged. Generally charge the phone at slow mode though the laptop USB as needed.

In my car I use the phone for a engine gauge display and also charge it while running as it's on all the time. I put a cell battery gauge in the setup and an alarm that goes off at 100% to not overcharge it on the long drives.

We are soon to get flooded with cheap Mexican made Chinese EVs in the US. Two new factories going up just across the border.

I guess at least some will be built here? I still don't think I'm interested in the product from what I've seen so far.

I was thinking of the added risk of thousands of cheaply made EVs.

I can see insurance companies wanting them charged outside after a few years of claims.

Maybe. They still have to be at least built to the standards of US roads, but the Cybertruck somehow made it through so maybe that's not as stringent as I'm picturing.

Thinking affordable suppression and suffocation systems here:

How about a strong airtight garage? If a battery fire starts, it'll smother itself real fast.
Think about a fire proof paint cabinet. If the paint catches fire, it's all in a localized box.
You open the paint cabinet when you know the fire is out.

Airtight garage sounds expensive and on top of that, that's a lot of air space to play with before it suffocates out. I'm sure it could be done. At least if it's expensive it's all the more reason to make it look cool in the process.

I wonder what it would cost to build an airtight garage, or box to park an EV in that can be charged while parked inside of it. That would destroy any supposed savings associated with owning an EV for several lifetimes. Even building a garage so that an EV fire would remain contained and not damage the house or surroundings would be a very costly endeavor. For now the best thing to do would be to park it far away from the house or anything that can catch fire.

Maybe drape your car in the garage with this blanket to snuf out any fire before it starts, or at least keep it under control. Make and automatic car blanketer winch setup.

I roughly know where this is. Centennial Colorado is a fairly affluent city. I'm surprised that some insurance companies aren't requiring a cardox fire suppression system installed in the garage if you park your ev.

That would cut into sales imo big time. Some people might cry foul.

Battery fires do not need oxygen. They are chemical and produce all the energy they need. That is why water does not put them out.

I’d want a better seal between the house and garage than the driveway …

You guys need to watch the video. You aren't going to suppress it. You can cool it and slow down the burning, and then there is the toxic smoke.
