I used Walmart Super Tech blended 10W30 for years in my wifes 97 Taurus, a few months ago I used the free offer and got 5 qts of Maxlife 10W30 (dino) and put it in. This morning after an overnight low of 28 I had a hard time starting it. I changed the oil to MobilOne 10W30, will check it in the morning.

28 isnt even cold. cant see how it was the oil, sounds more like a battery on its way out.

I've got to agree with ted on this one. 28 deg isn't very
cold at all. Even my 97 PSD starts right up it temp's
lower than that with 15w40 Delo.

There has to be another reason for the slow start, and the
battery is the first place that i'd look, not the oil.

Plus, Maxlife has pretty decent cold specs, better than your average dino. 28 isn't even cold enough to stress most batteries. Try -10 with 10w30 mixed with a super thick oil additive if you want to experience a truly rough start (I did).

It started alright this morning, but it wasn't as cold as the day before. The battery is five and a half years old and its from Walmart, so it may be time to get a new one.

I just did that, even got 7 bucks on the warranty, not bad for a Walmart battery. Now it turns over like it used to. I have been going 5k between Oil changes with Supertech blend 10W30

The only qualm I had with my walmart battery is they sold & put in the one for the 4-cylinder model instead of the V6; my truck killed it within a matter of days, and they refused to replace it due to the fact that it wasn't installed into the correct engine.

I believe Walmart battery's are Johnson Control made, so things should be good.

It depends on where you are. They use differant vendors in differant regions.

Care to explain this a little clearer?

Who picked that particular battery -- you or Walmart?

A Walmart service tech did; my sister had been driving my truck when the battery gave out in their parking lot, just a few feet from their shop.

She said a 20-something year old good-looking, nice mannered guy came out to help her and found my battery shot. He put a new one in for her, sent her on her way - it got her home and lasted for a few days, then the truck wouldn't restart again.

Popped the hood and found that the battery was way smaller then what was in the truck before.

The battery that's in their now is an Interstate with 700cc amps versus the 400cc amps (IIRC) they had in there.
