Wow, never expected this one but figured I'd make note of it. Normally I run a 40 weight oil in my 9-5 oil death machine. Well, I have this wonderful stash of Maxlife Synth 10W30 that I was just itching to use. I figured that since it was a thickish 30 weight it would be fine. I think I also added some SLOB but no arx.

Well, today, about 3k miles into this fill, I happened to check my oil (which is NEVER low) and found it a full quart low. Now, I would have NEVER expected Maxlife Synth to disappear like that. I know I am leak free at the moment. This is all the more surprising considering I have the PCV system updated to current specs.

I guess I'll go back to Mobil1 on the next fill. I know that's everyone's fav. But it's going to be either that, or RTS, or Syntec 5W50....

My F150 did the same thing with the thicker Redline 5W20. I was amazed and quickly put something else in there.

You had no oil consumption with M1 xW30 before and it consumes 1 quart with Maxlife Syn in 3k miles ?

I had opposite experience, my '94 LS400 drunk about 1/2 quart M1 5W30 every 4k miles and none with Maxlife Syn 5W30. It had Maxlife Syn for several OCI's and now it has Chevron Supreme 5W30 and so far no measurable consumption in 3k miles.

Now, I never ran M1 xW30 straight. I usually mixed 2 qts of SL M1 10W30 and 2 qts of red cap SL M1 15W50. I had plenty thanks to closeouts and freebies from my FIL. I ran out of this recently and decided to try my Maxlife Synth before I went to my remaining stash of M1 0W40 and Syntec 5W50.

Various people have mentioned oil consumption issues when changing oils. It is as if the vehicle needs to get use to it.
This seem to settle down with use as I am sure you have read on here.

Yep but I've never had that happen before when switching in this car. I've run Syntec 5W50, Redline, PP, M1, a couple of different short HDEO runs, and different oils spiked with Neutra, Arx, and LC20. Never consumed a drop. Which is really odd considering how crazy this engine is.
