I have a '96 explorer with 156k miles. It doesnt leak at all. Is there any benefits to using maxlife. I dont want a problem where there isnt one already, in other words I dont want leaks in the future. If I were to stop using Maxlife after I started would the engine be more likely to leak..Ray

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I share your concern with the "seal conditioners" in the high mileage oils. Otherwise, they are very nice oils.

I think the topic here is Maxlife dino. My consumption increased with it. I respect the Maxlife synthetic virtues alot. However, that's twice the money also.

You should keep whatever present oil you are using in that Explorer -- unless consumption is the unknown issue here... not gasket leaks.

I have used Maxlife in a 4.6 Vic starting at 90k miles. When I would switch to ST or MoCraft oil, consumption would go up. Switching to Maxlife Syn reduced consumption more.

The Vic has 147k miles on it now and consumes about 1qt every 1000-1200 miles. This is very common for older 4.6's. At one point it was consming 1qt/600-800 miles on SuperTech SJ or SL a few years ago.

I put MaxLife Syn in a '95 K1500 350 TBI at 160k'ish miles ( engine regularly saw 4-5k mile dino OCI's before) and no leaks or increased consumption.

Maxlife Dino is 12-18% PAO syn though not marketed as a blend. Good stuff for $11/5qt jug at Wal-Mart.
