Interesting observation: 2az-Fe engine haven't burned any noticeable amount of oil in 3k miles of Maxlife FS 0w20, but ate half of a quart of Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 5w20 (the Gold bottle) in the first 1000 miles into the OCI. Opinions?

Well for one, maxlife is a High Mileage oil and castrol isnt. Regardless..when i change oil types i burn through half qt fairly quickly also..id give it a couple oci's before making a judgment call.

Ploho.
I mean the oil consumption of 0.5 quarts per 100 miles. I would recommend Vitaflush from Xado (read at xado.ru or xado.us) before oil change. It works. And get rid of synthetic oil, Maxlife syn blend (red bottle) is good enough.
If you still did not see this resource, I would strongly recommend to read.

P.S. Limit OCI by 5k miles. Toyota recommendation of 10k miles is [censored]. You can see this on your own engine.

Budet luchshe:)
Really good article, for the most part. Some strong points there, but I am still a believer that little consumption is normal and is directly proportional to the driving style.

And I always keep it at 3k-5k OCI. As far as staying away from synthetic? That will not be happening anytime soon, because I have a good size stash (roughly 200 qts left, after giving some away) of nothing but synthetic oil that I share between all cars in my signature and couple friend's cars. So synthetic only for a few years for now.
