I was at Walmart getting some oil today and saw that the Valvoline MaxLife Full Synthetic has a new look and the Dexos 1 logo on the bottle. Also its sorta strange b/c the old bottles are still there but this one is in the exact same as the regular valvoline Full Synthetic bottle expect the cap is red and it says very small dexos1 logo and says Full Synthetic with max life technology

Personally I liked the other bottles better.. Perhaps its cheaper to make the stickers for the containers this way ??

what do you think? Also why are they now Dexos1 Logo ?? before it would say exeeds Dexos1 requirements.. Now it has the logo// ** perhaps they paid for the logo??

Now what is strange about this.....
both are Full Synthetic
both are 5W30 both are valvoline
why is the Full Synthetic with max life technology the only 1 that is dexos1 approved with logo?

Why are they not both approved with logo?? Also notice the red cap?

They even changed the back... If anyone knows the back of the valvoline bottles that shows the warrenty it will say conventional 150k miles and then max life / dura blend 225k
then say max life Full Synthetic 300k

now look how this how it says Full Synthetic with max life technology

Its no big deal.

my main point is why is 1 dexos1 approved and the other one not... strange.

wonder why dexos1 would approve a high milage oil ??

that's like saying they could use it in a brand new car ????

and I have read its never a good idea to use high milage oil in a brand new car.

Has anyone else noticed this?


Any replies would be great.
 
This is somewhat confusing, and an interesting move, Maxlifes well known but at same time it wasnt supposed to be full synth.

Theyre more like mobil now that there is regular variant and an high mileage variant now on their top tier product.

I like the new badge. Doesn't look bad, just wish they would be in stock here. Next time I see any I need to buy 15 quarts. Stuffs never in stock here you would think synthetic maxlife was a myth.


Just did a little reading, from what I read that synthetic maxlife isn't API certified.

if its DOXOS1 approved it has to be api certified.

you will see it on both max life blend and max life full sun

The API Certification Mark

The API Certification Mark "Starburst" is designed to identify engine oils recommended for a specific application (such as gasoline service). An oil may be licensed to display the Starburst only if the oil satisfies the most current requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) minimum performance standard for this application (currently GF-5 for passenger cars). Many automobile manufacturers recommend oils that carry the API Certification Mark.

I like maxlife myself I might have misstated originally I was meaning the starburst.

"My owner's manual says to only use motor oil featuring the American Petroleum Institute (API) starburst. I don't see it on the MaxLife bottle. Is it still ok to use in my car?
MaxLife is formulated with specialized additives that help fight the problems typically found in higher mileage engines. Because MaxLife's high mileage oil formula is focused for maximum performance in stopping the four major causes of engine breakdown - leaks, deposits, sludge, and friction - it was not formulated to exceed API criteria for fuel economy (also known as the API starburst on packaging labels). However, the difference between average fuel economy results for MaxLife and other motor oils that meet the API criteria is still very minimal. More importantly, if you want the extra protection that MaxLife offers then you can use MaxLife in any vehicles that specify enhanced fuel economy motor oils (API starburst)."

Edit: No it isn't, i cant see it very well without reading glasses. lol

Edit: nevermind! found it, problem solved.
 
1)Maxlife with Dexos "for cars over 75000 miles " GM required dexos in 2011 and newer vehicles. Many GM owners will have to wait until they hit 75000 miles to use this oil.

2)Accoring to Dexos website http://www.gmdexos.com/ " the highest quality oil formulated exclusively for GM engines"


So by both Valvoline and Dexos advertising this oil is exclusive to GM engines with over 75000 miles.

Just as oil company can say their oil meets or exceeds API SN performance requirement.

However if they wish to get an endorsement and be able to display the API symbol or in this case the Delos symbol they have to pay to have it tested /and or whatever requirements the holder of those symbols demand of them in order to do so.

So anyone can sell oil meeting or exceeding anything on the market without paying for a starbust symbol etc. However if they want that symbol they have to acquire it.

Yes, previously Valvoline stated they didn't want to pay the exorbitant licensing fees in order to keep the cost of their product down.
Obviously they have realized they need Dexos products to remain competitive.

yea the old bottle for maxx life Full Synthetic just looked better imo.

I think valvoline did it to save $$$

now they just have to put that lil logo that says with max life technology

perhaps they needed to save $ to pay GM for the Dexos 1 certifcation and logo they put on bottle.

before it just used to say exceeds dexos1 in white print.


however again I think the other bottle was a better looking bottle.

I BET some people will buy the maxx life Full Synthetic and were wanting the syn power and get the wrong one on mistake.
