Went shopping at our Meijer yesterday, and checked the automotive section, just for fun. They must have had a new shipment come in. There were new bottles of the Maxlife Synthetic on the shelf. Not just new bottles, but the new marketing of Valvoline as well, where they compare Maxlife against Mobil 1 High Mileage.
The new bottles had a little cardboard box thing that fits over the cap, and it lists all the claims Valvoline is making on their website here.

It really is pretty good marketing. They are hoping the average Joe looks at it and goes, "Whoa, better wear protection than Mobil 1." and grab the bottles.
I want to see more of the test they used. I focus on their words, "40% more anti-wear film", it doesn't say 40% better anti-wear than Mobil 1 High Mileage, just a thicker film.
So, say they have a way to measure the film thickness, and they are claiming thicker film than Mobil 1, but that doesn't translate into better wear protection, does it? Wouldn't that depend on the film strength?
Yes, Maxlife may be 40% thicker, but, say, if it takes 500 psi to breech the film, whereas, Mobil 1 with a 40% thinner film, isn't breeched until 1,000 psi, than Mobil 1 would offer the better wear protection?
Just throwing some thoughts out there.
