Dude, you are so screwed!!

No matter what you do from this point forward, it will cost you money. Your best bet is to not do anything and in the future take your business elsewhere.

I agree! These guys no longer need to match anyone's prices as they already have your money.

Give it a try but most likely it's a no go unless they really want to keep you happy.

Leave the tires on your Civic..

But next time buy your tires online a just have them mounted at your local tire shop.
I bought Falken Sincera SN828 tires for my mom's 2001 Civic for $43 each and free shipping from Discount Tire and these tires are highly rated and are inexpensive.

Unfortunately, screwed and tatooed.
The Mastercrafts are not a terrible tire (although, I have a set that came on a used Ranger I bought last year that I wouldn't mind losing, just don't want to spend the $)
The issue as many have said is there are much better options at the price point that you bought.
Unless they claim some kind of a satisfaction warranty or they have a price match procedure, you probably do not have a whole lot of options except wearing them out and taking your business elsewhere the next time.
Just consider it as coursework towards a degree form The School of Hard Knocks.

Unless you push that car hard, the Strategy tires should perform well on a 2001 Civic. I'd keep them if they were on our 2002 Civic.

Yep, even though they are okay....for a cheapie.

Same for Cooper's and the Sears Guardsmen. (Also same tire)

They'll do just fine.

I'm not sure why there is all the hating the the MCs, as most of the indie shops around here run them with little/no issues.

I've actually considered the Strategy myself, as the local tire place by me can offer me a nice deal on them.

You did overpay though, as I can't see these tires being more than 75 bucks each....

As far as tire size, it just depends how you drive....

They probably charged me more because they offer the 30000 miles w/o care warranty or 60000 miles with care. So anytime something goes wrong with the tires within the warranty miles, they would either repair it or replace it. And also offer lifetime free rotation, free flat repair and a few other things. They might call these services free but actually push them on the tire prices. I am not too sure though. Also I think online is always cheaper. But again I declared on my first post that i dont know much (anything to be honest) about tires.

Don't worry man, you'll know for next time.

You'll be just fine with the current tire....

It's not the tire I'm worried about..it's that Fair towne place it came from....

robertvee,

Nobody here are jumping on you for your mistake, we are just trying to help as much as we can, but it seems like it is hard to reverse the situation that you are in, that is why some of us are upsetting that there is not much you can do now.

You should contact the tire store to see which brands they're carrying then post here. We'll try from there.

I'd tend to agree. The only thing it sounds like he got a decent price was the alignment. $49 for a alignment is a decent price. I feel for the guy. However, the majority of us have been in similar situations. Best to learn from it, move on, and allow the knowledge from it become preventative in regard to being put in that situation again.

Yeah sure your point is well taken. They are replacing the Strategy with BFG TRACTION T/A. And the grand total is $447 including installation and everything else. So I am getting back close to a $100. However they took away the road-hazard, mileage warranty. Only thing left is Worksmanship.

Here is the break up of the invoice:-

1) 195/60R15 BFG TRACTION T/A - $372 ($93 per tire)
2) Computer Balancing - $51.80
3) Valve Stem - $15.80
4) Lifetime Free Flat repair - $0.00
5) Lifetime Free Rotation - $0.00
6) Dismount + Mount - $0.00
7) 30 Day Test Drive Guarantee - $0.00
8) After sale guaranteed lowest price - $0.00
9) Nationwide warranty - $0.00
10)Lifetime Snow Tire Changeover - $0.00
11) Tire Casing disposal service - $8.00

TOTAL = $447.60

Obviously they have left out the alignment for some reason. Will need to check that when I go in to get the new tires. They have ordered the new tires and will be getting them on Wednesday. I will also post the break up for the Master craft strategy. Please see if that makes any sense.

18) MILEAGE With Care - 60000

The BFG is a much better tire IMO.
If you click on the link, you will see that Tire Rack's price is considerably less. You may want to price that tire around your area, especially since the invoice notes an "after sale guaranteed lowest price." If you have already paid for the alignment, they probably figure that was a necessary service that wouldn't be involved in the tire swap. I would make sure that you didn't have to pay 2x for valve stems and tire disposal. Best of luck.

With regards to what tires they can sell, they can order all the tires that is within top 5 of the tireack.com survey results fro all season. They could order other brands too but I only asked about the ones in top 5. An advantage of choosing MCraft would be that they can install them the same day since they have those in stock. Other brands have to be ordered.

1) Michelin Pilot Exalto - $129
2) Dunlop SP sport Signature - $102
3) Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid - $104
4) BF Goodrich Traction T/A H - $93.

I choose the most economical one which happens to be the BFG.

It's okay. I will check with the other dealers in the NH area and see what the best price. Thanks.

ribertvee,
Some Mastercraft tires are OK and others are subpar. You'll never know until you have used up the tire and to see if they have met your expectations. Live and learn, it's a part of life! These MC tires could turn out to be the best thing since sliced bread and you could tell others. A real sleeper! The worst thing that's happening here is that you probably paid a little more than you could have if you had searched around a bit for a major brand tire for a better price. Come here first before buying items for your vehicle, rather than buying a product and then asking for opinions. Live and learn...

Good point!

This thread is not about high performance tire, it's about the OP got shafted by a local tire store, he paid too much for unknown brand with questionable quality.

Sounds like too much money. In the future, check Sams Club online, and then base your decisions based on what they are selling for.

Sams is usually the cheapest and has decent name brand tires.

I was pricing out a set of 14 inch BFG tires for my saturn, they were about $330 per set installed.

15 inch tires are are a little more, but I have a feeling that you overpaid by about $100 a set, and got an inferior tire.
