It is inevitable. As the years go by and the population steadily increases (US Census Bureau projections with today's and estimated future legal and illegal immigration rates put the USA as nearing one BILLION souls in a hundred years or so) fossil fuel usage will increase here and elsewhere while supplies will likely decline.
Before the wells go dry surely the ever-increasing cost will drive consimers away from the typical fossil fueled car.
