Enron gave as much or more money to Democrats. Don't forget, when that scandal broke the Dems controlled the Senate and could've investigated as much as they wanted. Thing is, they DID get to the bottom of it and what they found was Bill Clinton and Robert Rubin. That's why after about two weeks it kinda disappeared from the daily news just as Jim Quinn said it would. In any event, the Enron scandal is the fault of the people who ran the company and not so much the govt IMO. If the govt is out there watching every nickel that passes through every pocket, then we might as well be Communists.
As far as Martha, I haven't really paid a lot of attention simply because I don't care, but after reading about it in the paper yesterday, it didn't really involve a heck of a lot of money if you compare what she sold her stock for early versus what it would have sold for a day or so later. My point was just that a lot of people have gotten away with a lot worse than Martha Stewart.

top 50 donors to both parties

edit: this is soft money donors.

while enron did donate substantial amounts to the democrats during the clinton era, they aren't in the top 50 democratic donors since 1995.

kenny boy did spend a lot of time hanging out with bubba as well.

someday i'm going to buy my very own politician. until then though, i'll abide by the law...

You can't buy a politician, the best you can do is rent one, or maybe lease 'em.

GM,
Martha's daugther dated Sam Waksal for a long time.....there was a relation/friendship between him and Martha.
Why the government didn't charge Martha on insider trading is way beyond me.

If I was the judge, I'd send her to jail for 2-3 months and then make her pay twice the amount of tax payer's money it took to prosecute her.

Somehow this "Martha Guilty" thread got highjacked into a "Crucify Bill & Hillary" rant, but that shouldn't be surprising. The topic could have been "Instant oatmeal any good?" and it would have inevitably taken that right turn as well.

For those not fixated on Hillary, it might be interesting to note (per Charlie Rose the other night) that Martha was convicted for lying to federal investigators EVEN THOUGH THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A TRANSCRIPT. Personally, I think she's guilty as charged, but the investigators handled their initial questioning with less sophistication than Sheriff Taylor and Barney Fife would have managed. They didn't videotape the session, did not tape record it, AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A TRANSCRIPT. Compare that to many state, county, and municipal agencies: If this questioning was conducted by NYPD detectives, they would have been required to videotape it, and the jury wouldn't have had to take ANYONE'S word about what was said. I think she's guilty, but it's too bad they had to make the jury rely on an amateurish interview to get there. Next time the Feds should take some tips from Barney Fife on recording depositions -- they could certainly use 'em.

Hey TC, at least we agree on some things.

Guy on the radio this morning pointed out that Martha is guilty of lying to Federal investigators for a crime in which the charges were dropped for lack of evidence.

Okaaaaayyyyyy..... Jon Stewart on The Daily Show had a great clip y'day of a CBS (?) reporter asking "How will Martha do in jail since she's a very attractive for a 62 year-old woman?"

Makes me want to go rent "Chained Heat".

As far as bashing Bill and Hillary, I'll take every shot I can. Vitriolic hatred is a two-way street. Dems/Libs bag on my boy, I fire back.
