Mann VS Hyundai OEM (Elantra)

Just for grins;
I bought a Mann (made in USA) 1002 oil filter. For several Hondas and Elantra.

Size they are the same. Anti drain back valve on the Mann is black vs orange on the Hyundai
Size and shape are the same. Hyundai has more holes in it. Interior is the same looking but....The pleats are more packed together on the Hyundai. The weight difference is significant with the Hyundai weighing a good deal more.

Did not cut them open. Will be doing that later with a used oil analysis on both.
At this time think I will be staying with the Hyundai due to more material in it.

I use the Hyundai oil filter on my 03 CRV. The canister is heavy and does not flex when I am installing the filter. The silicone anti-drain back valve, metal end caps, and evenly spaced thick filtering material along with a less than $5.00 price tag makes it a winner for me.

Honestly hyundai makes great filters, Hyundai makes lots of good quality things

MANN makes a very HIGH QUALITY Oil Filter and they use a good qualty parts in them.

Mann made in the US is pretty much just a Purolator. The Hyundai filter is far better.

The made in the USA Mann is basically a Purolator Classic, and most likely a clone. That would make it rated 97.5%@20um efficient. The dissected Manns posted here appear to be well made.

The oem too looks well made but has an unknown efficiency, ie., no published rating. The only thing that would make it "better" than the Mann imo is it has a silicone adbv, as opposed to nitrile for the Mann.

I wouldn't be afraid to try the Mann. If you notice a difference in start up noise, you can swap it out. That said, the Mann should function well.

But, a used oil analysis will not prove or disprove the effectiveness of either filter.

The US made Manns are now black in color. Changed from the white can with green and yellow sticker for awhile now.

White Mann filter = basic Driveworks filter.... both made in china.

Black Mann filters are whats used by the Euro-car dealerships. And if your BMW dealership really is good, they would source their parts directly from Germany, but the black MANN filters are just as good.

Now, I've used two driveworks filters on my Hyundai and it worked great. No issues whatsoever. I just wouldn't trust it for a 5,000 mile OCI.

Umm no. The previously white Mann filter is not made in China, it is made by Purolator right here in the US of A as shown in the following link thanks to member Bottom Feeder. As said though, now the US made Manns are using the black color used on the German made Manns but the differences in baseplate design between the US and the German made Mann are easily recognized.

Imo, the US made Manns should easily handle a 5k oci.
