wow talk about a lucky guy. not sure I would be posting a pic of that on facebook while on the way to the hospital, that is just too screwed up.

it can happen, nail guns are dangerous

when i was 20 (Many moons ago) i worked as a framer in construction, we were building forms for a foundation

the foreman said "hold this 2x4 so i can shoot a nail into it"

(famous last words LOL) well he got distracted by another worker just as he pulled the trigger and i became part of the foundation's form, a 3 inch nail went right through my hand and into a 2x6 framing stock

they used a saws all to cut the 2x4 off the form and i went to the hospital holding the board(imagine that picture)

the doc used a dremmel tool and cut the nail up into pieces and pulled it out, i now have a cool scar and another drinking story to share

Man that sure is a scary one there. glad you are ok. considering the force of those guns it stands to reason some serious accidents will happen if people are not careful.

I'm amazed at how resilient the brain is -- and I'm amazed at how little damage a nail can do.
I wonder if it was a smooth nail or one of the rough finished galvanized nails. It was probably
one of those smooth nails that old timer carpenters call "Grease Nails."

IMO, part of the reason for the lack of "damage" is that he didn't know it was in there.

Seen some interesting research into strokes that show that if a patient arrives unconscious, then placing them in a full body cast limited the paralysis, as they didn't know that they couldn't move "x" part of their body, until some point in time after they had started recovering...

Nailgun instances ?

Former workmate nailed himself to a fascia board through the web of his left hand, while (obviously) up a ladder...decided to rip it off.

Another current workmate was nailing a benchtop on his daughter's renovation, and as he changed timber cross-sections, sent a nail up through the benchtop into his gesticulative finger, pinning him in place...couldn't reach phone to call wife, wouldn't be missed for hours, so freed himself with a claw hammer.
