Mahle filter bypass settings

Does anyone happen to know at what pressure the bypass valve opens on these Mahle filters:

OC338
OC479
OC981
OC460

Has anyone had success writing Mahle, or know of a contact there, to learn about these properties?

I looked in both european & US Mahle catalogs and the only details given are dimensions, same with tecdoc. OC338 only appeared in the US catalog.

I thought that since they weren't freely published that this might be some kind of secret information, but I was wrong. The helpdesk gave these values:

OC338 = 17.5 psi
OC460 = 23.2 psi
OC479 = 17.4 psi
OC981 = 121.0 psi

I'm wondering if the 121 psi isn't an error resulting from a missing decimal place when converting from metric units.

What are those for? Kind of high bypass settings for most vehicles I think.

I asked them to double check and they made further inquiries to the mothership.
They revised what they said about OC981 to be 12-16 psi.

All these filters are 3 inch / 76 mm diameter cans, 3/4-16 thread. Their lengths vary.

I am basically looking for alternatives to L10241/L20195. There are a couple of OC338 cut open around here on BITOG. These photos show the media to be in perfect condition, not unlike my experiences with the Mann W917 we use on our Volvo.

This information is from Mahle's US catalog:

OC338 (17.5 psi bypass) is 79 mm long, applied to some Ford, Mazda, Toyota, ag equipment (cat, deere and more), and many others. They list crosses to YZZD1, YZZD3, 51516, L20195, E1FZ6731A (old fl400?), PH2835, PH3614, and more. The current Rockauto price is $3.63.

OC460 (23 psi bypass) is 120 mm long, is listed for some Ford 2.5 and 3.0 in Jaguars, and two VW engines in the Vanagon (T3). They cross it to E4FZ6731AB (current FL400S) and in the aftermarket PH3600 and 57301, and Mann W719/12. The current rockauto price is $6.27.

OC479 (17.4 psi bypass) is 118mm long, is listed for many AMC/Chrysler, Ford, Mazda. It is also listed as a direct cross to E4FZ6731AB (current FL400S), FL2005, PH3600, 51516. The current rockauto price is $4.81.

OC981 (12-16ish bypass) is 94mm long, is listed for Saab, and many AMC/Chrysler and Ford. They list crosses to FL-910S, L17357, 51348, PH2964, PH5550, PH7328, Mann W712/80. The current rockauto price is $5.29. Why PH7328 is listed I have no idea, that is a larger diameter filter.

Rockauto also has European Mann W712/80, 80mm length, bypass 0.8 bar ($5.34) and W719/12, 123mm length, bypass 1.0 bar ($4.01) but they never seem to be available from the same shipping location as anything else I normally get there. (1.0 bar = 14.5 psi)

I think I will get an OC479 and OC981 in my next order.
