Made in USA?

Hmm, interesting. I purchased a camshaft position sensor for an 01 Civic this summer from Advance, also a BWD but labeled Intermotor import. Mine had no Bosch or Germany markings on the sensor though. Assuming the Intermotor is made in the US.

at this point in life, and seeing how these things go, I'd be more concerned with having a quality part. country of origin no longer indicates quality.

Oh, I think it still does to a degree. Though I think the bigger difference is between OEM and aftermarket parts, particularly when it comes to electronics.

This is probably the likely reality. The production line machinery likely was originally in Germany, but to reduce costs were shipped over the the USA. It would have cost too much money to change the mould with the country of origin on the part, so they left it intact and put the correct point of actual manufacture on the box instead.

I work for a sister company of Bosch.

My ex used to work for AAP. As I recall, when they changed a product line over from one supplier to another the new supplier would provide boxes and all the parts were removed from their old boxes and placed into the respective box provided by the new supplier. There was one particular reboxing event which I can recall specifically that did involve BorgWarner branded products (she referred to all BorgWarner brand parts as Borgs) that took nearly two weeks.

What are the chances that the new boxes ended up being labelled with the correct COO of the part?

All auto makers use assemblies made of components made all over the world. Certain parts of the world now have more concentrated capabilities than others. The US has lost it's capability to make most electronic components that are now made in Asia. This has been this way for decades.

Really, how do know this? Is there a citing anywhere as proof of that assertion? There's no indication on the sensor itself that it's not made in the US.

That would mean that either just the box is made in the USA and/or it's false advertising by BWD/Intermotor and Standard Motor Products.

Fwiw, the sensor fixed the issue and it's worked fine since installation.

Then of course there is the infamous "white box" line of parts that seem to be so common these days. What IS that stuff anyway? It doesn't help when the boxes are labelled with a dual country-of-origin like this little gem here:

Wow that is DECEPTIVE to be sure. I would bet that violates laws we have on the books right now.

So does that mean that various elements of the product were made in BOTH countries or ?

Chances are the assembly is assembled in the US from components made in different parts of the world. Not false advertising.

Yeah, they have 4 or 5 factories in the USA but more in Mexico as well IIRC. But I doubt they make all of the components in one factory.

The "US" on the end of that label is the market designation it was made for.
