Mac OS X Lion. Who has it?

I just finished installing it. It's great. Well worth $29. Mission Control is actually quite awesome, I didn't think it would be much better than expose but it is! I also didn't think I would use launchpad much, but I've already used it a few times.

Another thing I just noticed while typing this is that it now has auto-correct. Let the funny times begin… yeah I said funny. We all know how entertaining the iPhone auto correct is, now let's see if OSX will be any funnier.

Is it faster than Snow lepard? I have a 10' mac pro it gets slower each time it updates..I have rebuilt permissions and dumped caches. It's my first mac...I don't use expose just word, saferi, firefox. Mine is a 15" 2.53ghz 4g DDR3 with 250HD.. It has also been to apple for many repairs including battery, ram sticks 3 HD's. Apple claims previous repairs were not done right, but they are now... GGGGRRRR it was the apple store in Austin that has performed the repairs...

I'd say it's just as fast, if not a tad bit faster. It's much more iOS like, and I'm really diggin' it. It stinks to hear your 15" has been for so many repairs, usually when you have 3 repairs they give you a new one. Ask for a new one, if you have to get another repair done. Apple service is the best when it comes to pleasing the customer, I've always had a pleasant time with Apple.

I can't resist.

If I decide to put a new hard drive in my old iMac and also some additional RAM I will probably get Mac OS X Lion. I have not decided if it is worth it or not and Apple Computers are too expensive to buy new.

Haha I fresh installed it via the new "Install from Apple Servers" option. Took about 3 hours to fully download and install. I don't care what apple or anyone else says, I prefer FRESH installations when doing any major OS upgrade.

But! It is great so far, besides the backwards mouse scrolling, I love the new multi-touch scrolling/natural scroll. Mission control and launchpad are great, especially with linked to the bottom left/right corners. Definitely faster boots and the small visual enhancements are very welcomed.

Lion only works on machines with a Core2 Duo CPU or later. If your "old" iMac is too old you may find yourself, like me, ineligible!

I think my iMac is probably able to run Lion but I will double check to be sure. That is another issue with Apple-they are willing to leave a lot of their customers behind. After Apple went to Intel chips a lot of people were left behind. People who had some fairly powerful Macs were unable to run the most recent Apple operating systems.

I used mostly Apple Computers (at home) for a long time. They were less hassle and there was a time when a person just about had to have an Apple Computer to do any computer graphics. I seriously think that situation is reversed today. My Windows 7 computer is easily able to run my photo printer and my flatbed scanner. Heck, I was even able to run my dedicated film scanner, thanks to Microsoft and NOT Nikon!

I can't get decent prints with my photo printer using my iMac. Back around 1999-2000 I would never have believed that I would be making a statement like that. Now a Mac is still useful in some situations even with the computer graphics field gone, but I sure will not buy a new iMac. For the price of a good iMac I can buy a custom built powerful Windows computer. And for much less than that, I can just upgrade whatever needs to be upgraded on my current Windows 7 computer.

I think Apple needs to pay more attention to their computer users and a little less attention to iPads, iPhones, iPods, and their dream of the mobile computing life that does not fit everybody. When I go on a trip taking photographs I certainly do not want to drag a computer around with me. I work on the photos when I get home. I lug enough camera gear and other stuff on a trip. The last thing I would want to stuff into a bag is a laptop computer. And the last thing I would want to have on some windblown, dusty mountain ridge would be an iPad or a Mac laptop computer.

Few people know this, but Apple desktops are in decline and not just Windows desktop computers. Apple might need to consider this-be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
