is there any comparison? I work with spreadsheet s a lot, and do all my personal finances in them. lots of lookup functions, and financial and scientific forumalae needed. How does Numbers fare with real world spreadsheeting? all that i can gather on the mac site is that it "manipulates data easily" and is "pretty".

I don't really use either to any extent, but my impression is that Numbers can make nice charts but is somewhat harder to enter data into.

I would probably stick with Excel, personally.

excel is the standard. I use it for mac. Not worth the hassle messing with something else if you truly need to use a tool like it versus something simpler.

Openoffice is a pain Ive found compared to how MS office works. For heavy users, the cost savings isnt worth the hassle.

Something to note, Excel 2008 does not have the Data Analysis pack. That is a deal killer for me. It removes so much functionality.

They removed the Data Analysis tools in 2008? The tool pack was a standard feature in the Excel 2007 version meaning that you did not need to install the separate add-in.

I have found that nothing comes close to Excel for spreadsheeting. For statistical analysis there are better tools but for financial analysis and reports Excel is the best. The 2007 is much more robust than 2003 and fixed a lot of the old bugs.

i agree, while i like that openoffice exists, excel works much better for me. really is an extremely powerful programme.

i guess there is always office for mac!

Numbers and Excel work perfectly with each other. The one downside for Numbers is it does not get into the real complex stuff that Excel does, but to which extent I am not sure.

I personally find numbers easier to use, but as mentioned, if you are used to Excel stick with it.
