Has anyone had there entire vehicle painted the original color at Maaco? If so.....what are your thoughts, opinions , and beyond ?

Had a low to mid level job done at maaco, clear coat was fading within 3 years. With buffing and wa x still looks good after 12 years, mostly garaged.

I got outstanding results from a Maaco because I removed EVERYTHING from a car before painting. Door handles, grille, headlamp buckets, radio antenna, molding, taillights.
A guy followed me into the men's room and said, "People say they'll do this but you actually did it."

It was so good...and people talked about it....that my sister took her OK beater '88 Jeep Cherokee to them for a paint job and I popped over and couldn't believe how many small dings and dents were filled and ready to go. That Jeep sold easily, years later when the time came.

Hmmm. Interesting. The Maaco guy suggested a level 2 for my truck, and he said it has a 4 yr warranty. They offer levels 1-3.

Is that a step up from their Ambassador paint job?

All I know is that they told me there is a level 1- basic ,level 2 preferred. level 3 highest job with 5 yr warranty. The level 2 has a 4 yr warranty,,and that is what they told me Would like awesome an save me a lot of $ compared to the level 3.

It largely depends on the location - IE the actual people doing the work. And even then, it depends on what the people at that location are like at that moment. I've got a good one close to me, but I'd never just go with him without getting a good look at his crew beforehand.

Maaco's paints are typically not made to last. They're made to last through warranty. Not saying that's not good enough for your use.

I have heard that if you want to get a good job you should talk to the mgr and tell him that you are not in a hurry and if he puts the best person on the job then when he is done with the job he can expect a tip of more than hundred dollars. Also get the most expensive of the choices. Yes it is going to be high for a macco job but it is not going to be anything like the custom shops. This is what I saw on my friend’s 1970 mustang and it looks like it is a 10k paint job.

I had this painted in 2003 (not the original color, though) at the Maaco in Milwaukee. I did a lot of prep, and the car was trailered in. It was a step above the base paint job and had what they called an “integrated clear coat.” Not sure what that really meant, but I got many compliments on the car. Severe undercarriage rust took the car off the road.

"Integrated clear coat" sounds like a single stage paint. I could be wrong......

Think about this. If a gallon of Dupont (Axalta) Clear coat can cost $700.00, how good can $500.00 paint job be?
Do these places even use a name brand paint? I wouldn't think their prices would allow it-at least not for the lower end jobs.

Urban legend....location matters as in who is shooting the paint. There was a guy that shot paint at a Maaco location in the Bay Area. When he left Maaco, he had such a good reputation that people were always asking where he was currently working.

There was a Maaco close to downtown San Jose. As I walked past the open garage door there was a yellow 308GTB getting prepped inside. 😬

I've seen chain type body shop jobs where they paint over all the emblems and badges.
