well for very cold start up I would think M1 0w-X would be the best

as for gas mileage using 5w-20 vs 0w-30??????????????it just might depend on the driving type you do too, but really it might be so close that after 100,000 miles you could save less than 10 dollars using the better one

How cold are these cold starts?

I'd choose PP 5w-20, or any good 5w-20 for that matter if you prefer another.

I wouldn't bother using a 0w30 in a Honda engine that specifies 5w-20.

I doubt there would be much, if any, difference you'd notice. Pick one --and ease off the throttle-- for real gas savings...

Wait! Isn't the MDX turbocharged?

It doesn't get too far below freezing here, so PP 5w-20's viscosity curve is friendlier than M1 0w-30... at least until you get to where pour point depressants start playing a bigger role. If I were driving a car spec'd for 5w-20 in Alaska, I'd probably use a 0w-20 and call it a day.
