TIA,

Last year Strauss Stores closed a store and I grabbed 6 cases of M1 Turbo, Diesel, and Truck 5W40 oil for $1.70/qt. I sold a few cases and kept some. AAP had closed out M1 5W40 Truck and SUV for under $2 a qt and I grabbed 12 qts of that. What is the difference? Searching is not giving me much help.

I want to try this in my Aerostar to see if it helps slow oil use and a leak. I had good results with 5W20 slowing consumption vs a 5W30 but now I'm leaking a bit more and never tried a 40 grade in this engine. This is Bitog and experimenting is always fun!

Thanks again!

I would have loved to use TDT when I had my VW TDI. Not sure how good an oil that will be for your application, though. If you are experiencing oil consumption, going to this heavier weight will be a good option to try. I believe this is an HDEO as well. Can't hurt to try it out in your Aerostar.

Thinner oil can help in certain consumption instances, going against conventional wisdom, as I've learned from a study published by Shell. A 20 grade oil they found actually makes a better ring seal, if consumption is caused by rings. OTOH if it is valve seals and/or guides a "thicker" oil is better. I now have a little more of a leak, and am currently running 5W30. No point in going to 5W20 with the leak. I thought since I never tried a 40 grade in this vehicle, and I have the oil, I thought I'd give it a shot.

Honestly I don't think I'm going to keep it long enough to try a HM oil. I'd like to see it hit 200K which is about 5,000 miles away, then get rid of it and replace it with a nice used 4x4. I'm tired of jerking around with it in the snow. Over the years it made my wife and I real pros driving in snow, but having the Jeep Liberty is a real eye opener for getting around in snow. The LS rear E-150 and 5 speed stick is real good in the snow too. The RWD Aerostar SUCKS in snow!!!!!!!

Demar - to your original post - those are the marketing name changes to the same oil. Before those names, it was Delvac1.
I've used them since 2002 and slight changes in visc @ 40C is really about all you see different. Addpack is virtually identical. Good stuff, though.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try it, probably this weekend. It will be the first time for a synthetic oil and a 40 grade in this engine. It should be interesting.
