M1 and Chryslers MS-6395 spec testing.

While we fully expect the exceptional performance of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil to meet Chrysler’s specification requirements, at this time we are in the process of evaluating our timeline to start this testing.

Well I wouldn't use it until it is certified.

Oh please. Mobil One will far surpass that spec, which is easily met by conventional oil...since they spec conventional meeting that spec for their pentastars, hemis, etc. Just on my shelf VWB 5w-20, Mobil 1 SM 5w30, and QSUD 5w30 meet that spec. It is not overly stringent. Do you honestly think Mobil 1 5w30 is factory fill and OK for Corvettes but not OK for a Pentastar V6? Common sense please...

Are you addressing me, or who? As one who has M1 running through my veins, I am completely +1 with you. I posted this more to show the difficulty in certifying oils than anything else. I basiclly have no problem using M1 oils in most any engine.

From what I was told, Mobil and chrysler had a parting of ways. I dont know when that happened but that is when they droped the crysler spec from there bottle. Something about supply problems. Word is now they use PYB for factory fill and dealer stock. Last time I went to dealership for a software upgrade, every oil change I saw was with the yellow bottle. I think that same oil spec is what my 07 ram called for too. Back then they were pushing mobil at the dealership.

You know what. I do not know why M1 is not certified. Also I am not a "fan" of XOM in general or M1 in particular. But my opinion is that I believe Chrysler would be making a fool of themselves if Chrysler approved oils provided by Pennzoil provided adequate protection but stated that Mobil One and Mobil Clean in the correct viscosity and applications did not. I highly doubt that Chrysler would venture down that road. So back to the matter at hand it is only a matter of time before XOM's offerings are certified.

I think if Mobil One is factory fill for Corvettes and Vipers then it should be more than adequate for my Caravan. I have no doubt that Mobil One is top notch stuff.

SRT Vipers now use Pennzoil 0W-40 and Pennzoil is the "only" recommended fill for the Viper.

"Oil change intervals are recommended at 6,000 miles, using Pennzoil 0W40 synthetic motor oil only. The crankcase capacity with filter change is 10.5 quarts. A special SRT-designed oil filter is needed."

ok...so it was factory fill on '07 Vipers and all corvettes...the point remains. And you better believe whatever they put in any Viper far exceedds 6395.

M1 0w-40 at one time was factory fill on the SRT6 (supercharged V6 Merc engine), SRT8, and all SRT10 trucks and cars.

Nuttin' wrong with that!

I agree. There is very little information about this spec on the internet. Such as, are there viscosity requirements, additive requirements, etc. Many believe that any liquid that will pour meets the specification.

I suspect this is simply a money-making venture, if an oil bottler has to pay for testing to have the certification put on the bottles. Who tests the oil? Chrysler or an independent lab? What about MS-6395 goes above and beyond what API SN and/or ILSAC GF-5 already covers? I used to be all into manufacturer's oil specifications (like this, like any of Ford's specs, GM's dexos1, any of BMW's LL specs, etc). But anymore, I appreciate when a manufacturer simply calls for an API Sx and ILSAC GF-n oil. It makes it so much easier for the consumer (and for bottlers).

I always found it strange Mobil 1 did not list the Chrysler spec on the bottle, now I know why.

I wouldn't hesitate to pour it into my Dodge. I have been feeding it a diet of SOPUS since I got it and no reason to change.

There was no 2007 Viper.

Mobil 1 0-40 was the recommended oil for Gen III and IV V10's from 2005, 2006, 2008-2010.

2003 and 2004 were 10w30
