So , all things equal - would you run a longer OCI with the M1 5W30 EP or the 5W30 ESP ? An up to a 20 K lmile SP rated oil up against all of those Euro approvals with the 5W30 ESP … It may not be that easy to decide !

Stronger additive pack in ESP and better base stocks.
I think the MB requirement for approval is 15,000miles in the test engine.
Can you tell us exactly what’s in each additive pack and what testing Mobil did on each lube?

No I cannot.
Mobil 1 recommends following your vehicle's manual recommendations. We don't have any vehicles in the US using ILSAC GF-6 oils with 15 or 20k OCI. Mercedes does have that, and it is part of the approval requirement.
Simple VOA puts TBN of EP at 5.8, ESP at 7.1.

Yeah, just not sure what the antioxidants are in each - seems XOM is pretty complex holding so many of the cards …
Well anyway - it’s mentioned in different ways on the website - but what I interpreted was Mobil recommends what I did - not that I personally do 15k changes and have only done a few at 10k …

Well, i would not do 15k OCI too. My point is that at least with ESP we have something that provides us with the fact that oil can do 15k OCI. It just dawned on me that it has VW504.00 approval, which means it has to meet VW longlife requirement, which is 30,000km, or just a bit above 18,000 miles.
EP does not have any approval with such a requirement except Mobil1 marketing and fine print that says: follow the manufacturer's recommendations. So yeah, theoretically it could do 20k, but if all planets align.

I do think OEM’s have service life limits (like 1 year) - that’s really going to be it on the ESP in our Lexus - it will not even hit 10k this year and I personally won’t leave the oil past 9-12 months bcs that’s allot of short trips …

I get that. I don't do that either. I am just answering this hypothetical question from OP.
I think some Euro's state 2yrs limit. Not that I follow that. Our VW does not do 5k a year, so I just change yearly.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance motor oils provide guaranteed protection of critical engine parts for up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. Excluded service includes: commercial and racing applications; frequent towing or hauling; extremely dusty or dirty conditions; or excessive idling.

So if u are doing 20k in one year, those are pretty easy highway miles. Otherwise 1 year. I think it's fair to say that if you're short tripping you're doing max 5k a year, in that case it should be fine. In other words their marketing claims are not that exaggerated. Its basically a toss up if u need hths ~3.5 or care.

I keep my OCIs under 7K miles max no matter what oil. Basic oils get 5K miles OCI.

Yesterday changed oil at 5K miles.
Out was Kirkland 5W-30 (I call it basic). In Castrol Euro Car A3/B4 5W30 on sale for $23. It's summer baby. Euro reporting to work.

Prior to that I used M1 0W-40 (more advanced) and M1 EP 10W-30 and changed about 6500 miles. Can't find my favorite M1 EP 10W-30 in store so I used Castrol Euro.

I don't trust any oil to 10K miles!

You forgot this part from their web site where it says: for further information, look at Mobil1 Limited Warranty:
"
The Mobil 1 limited warranty is valid for 10,000 miles or your vehicle’s OEM recommended oil change interval, whichever is longer.

Additional requirements for all Mobil 1 products include:

  • Oils must be put in service not later than five (5) years from the date of purchase; and
  • an oil change must be completed every twelve (12) months."

Curious how M1 5W30 EP would do in the MB & VW testing ? Also at WM the M1 5W30 EP was $29 while the M1 5W30 ESP was $27 per jug. Up to 15,000 miles it appears the 5W30 ESP oil is the better all - around , more cost effective oil (even more so perhaps for the 0W30 ESP ).

M1 EP because they're advertising it as a "20k mile" oil but you have to do it within 1 yr. That being said I think VW has a 30k km (18k miles ) oil change interval in EU so there's that.

What vehicle is it? Do you road course race with it? Do you do drag with it? Do you toe with it? Where do you live? What kind of driving do you do? 5w-50 Amalie, and Mobil 1 SUPERCAR 5W-50 is what I use for road and road courses, in the mid Atlantic. I have thought strongly of switching summers, to 15- 50 or 20W 50 in a GEN 3 coyote engine.
