Been a while since I posted, but here's my latest UOA as well as a few past analyses. Another booooring UOA on this engine... but that's how I like 'em. Since Sept 2005 I've been using only the M1 10W30, if it ain't broke.... right? And the trend continues...

I'm running a fill of Pennzoil Platinum synthetic right now, there was a 2-for-1 sale at Advance Auto so I bought enough to fill both the Sequoia and the G35.

After reading a bit last night, it appears that there was a change with the Pennzoil formulations... is that correct? If so, can someone fill me in, maybe point me to a thread that sums up the issue?

Thanks... and let me know what you think of the UOA, and what sort of interval to use with the Penn Plat.

Chinee, just out of curiuosity, what oil filter and OCI do you run on your G35?

I've not been having much luck with my G. I've been using Mobil synthetic and dinos, and the results have not been impressive at all. I've also always used the Purolators... Pure One or Premium... I'm not one who believes the Micron filtration makes a significant difference. I'll be posting my G's results tonight, along with about three years' worth of UOAs. Be on the lookout.

Chinee, thanks a lot. I haven't seen too many G reports so I'm looking forward to it. I have an 05 AT @ 21K and I've been using only synthetics (except for break-in period), Mobil or ST Syn at 5K OCIs.

I think it's PennZoil Ultimate synthetic... not sure why I'm thinking Platinum...

...or is it Platinum and not Ultimate... must be past my bedtime.. .I'll check the bottle tomorrow.

This is really a nit, but you Fe levels have gone up significantly and you're showing a trace of Ni from the stainless steel (Fe/Ni/Cr), that makes up the intake valves.

How long has it been since you changed your air filter???

Air filter was changed at 82K. The only maintenance item that overdue (if I remember correctly) is a transmission flush... did it last at 50K, and I believe it's recommended every 30K (again, if I remember correctly).

It is interesting that the one non-Mobil-1 change showed a much lower iron wear/mile rate than does the average with Mobil-1. Maybe not enough data here to really draw a conclusion, but I wonder how well Mobil-1 does in controlling iron wear as compared to most other oils. Iron wear on a modern Japanese engines would primarily be from the valve train I would think.

It looks to me like this engine is hardly wearing at all.
You could run anything and get great results I believe. However with these great results I would stick to mobil 1 10w-30 just to be sure.

Wait a minute... I can't believe I never noticed that. As far as I'm concerned, I believe you just made a valid point. In an engine like this that shows very little wear, with any oil, I think these iron numbers might be significant. Now I can't wait for the Pennzoil Platinum numbers to see what the iron would read.

What year and model Toyota is this? It looks like it could run forever with these numbers.

2002 Toyota Sequoia with 104,000 miles on the odometer, approx. 70% highway miles. I'd like to get to 300K miles or more.

I noticed it because I was looking for it

. I've read a lot of the UOAs and have noticed that Mobil-1 seems to sometimes run higher iron wear numbers than other oils. I haven't done exhaustive statistical analysis of this and I'm not claiming to have reached a peer-review worthy conclusion .... but it sure seems like in some applications Mobil-1 might run higher iron wear numbers than do many oils. YMMV and all that ! Did I use enough weasel words
