I recently happened upon some M0502 batch GC at Canadian Tire here in Nova Scotia. My car has a 4.2L oil change with filter, but 4.7L dry sump. Would this little left over 0W40 with only 5000km on it be of any concern to me in the switch to GC. I found the 0W40 to be a bit too thick at high RPMs. I'm thinking GC being 12.2 vs 14.3 would flow better. Am I wrong? Or should I just break down and buy my usual M1 10W30 for summer use?

You sure about that, GC is a thick 30 weight.

They might be close to the same thing.

No.

I think the difference is marginal.

Use GC year 'round. You will be fine.

Thanks for all the input. I decided to drop in the Gold GC. Went for a little spin afterwards. It is indeed quieter than the M1 when warm. I also notice that my car now runs for redline much easier, with none of the hesitation it used to have. I think I found my new permanent oil.

I'm a GC believer/user now

albeit the GOLD stuff.

Just figure there won't be much difference between it and the green stuff.

Thou shalt not apologize for being a "Gold" fancier.

Hey Luvs2drive why not switch again to Esso XD-3 0w30 since you have access to it and it's only $4 a liter. I am this week. i will be doing an UOA on the GC also.

Well, it's far too difficult to get my hands on Esso XD-3 0W30 for one. The other is that I think the Zinc and Phos levels are too high for my liking, it isa afterall designed first for diesels.
GC is easy to get at Wal-Mart/Canadian Tire, and should be easier on the emissions systems.

Well, on my return trip from Nova Scotia I picked back up a little of my fuel economy. All in all a very nice oil this Gold GC. I'll use it one more time before I get an analysis due to the mix being diluted with Mobil 1 by just over a half a liter.
