I won 2 cases of oil from XOM.I had a choice of what viscocity and seeing as I use 0w30 in most of the fleet that's what I asked for..Well they sent me 0w30 racing oil,not that I am complaining..I remember reading a UOA from a toyota owned by JohnBrowning and he abused the oil and it seemed to hold up pretty well so,would/could/should I use it in my 03 Silverado's 5.3 with 36,500 miles????Any forseeable problems???Better suited for summer or winter or it doesn't really matter?? Thanks for any insight you can give....

Hey Big John, if you have any a doubt about using it, I'll always PM you my address and I'll GLADLY use it in my vehicle!!

Seriously though, not a problem, enjoy the extra meat in the additive package and knowing that you can drag your truck on the orange belt fully protected. Seasons wouldn't be an issue for me either. Use away.

I'm still kinda new to this but, is that why its not API certified? I was thinking if it's not API certified what would it be doing on the shelf (in store). Thanks.

API cert is completely optional. Have you seen Accel NON-DETERAGENT oil at wal-mart for 92 cents? It says on the back this is for gasoline engines for 1930 or before this is catorgized as SA. It says something like that on back.

You mean like after 2 or 3 miles?

In all respects I'm going to argue this. There's plenty of members on here using HDEO oils in there gas powered catalytic convertered equipped vehicles with nothing to **** a brick over. So why would M1R be any different other than the fact it's not HDEO?

If your truck isn't burning oil and seeing it's a newer chevy, I don't see why not? But that's just me,,,AR

Well it's amazing how one post can throw this into turmoil...I searched and found very few mentions of M1R 0w30,I must be doing something wrong???? I know John Browning used it in his toyota last winter, abused the oil and had good things to say about it...I have to search more and hope that more people chime in on this subject..

What could possibly be in this oil that would harm a cat. converter????

Higher levels of Phosphorus, which can cause catalytic converter poisoning.

Here's a good message thread that discusses this issue a bit:

{EDIT} Here's a UOA on M1R in an STi:

Note what Blackstone states in the comments:
quote:

"This racing oil assumes you are racing the car and don't have a catalytic converter on it. The level of zinc (a heavy metal) in this oil is the same as we find in diesel-use oil. Continually using it in a car engine can eventually foul the catalytic converter."

Big John, if this helps you decide to use it, I currently run Maxima's 4 Ultra 0w30 synthetic in my '04 Honda CR-V, and I'm not going to fret about the cat. This thing doesn't use a drop of oil, and from what I've learned, Zn and P poisoning is basically coming from using the oil, thereby going out through the exhaust.

I like the fact that this oil is very beefy in the additive package with the Zn, P, and other goodies, given the fact that this engine is used everyday and hard (not abused, just driven hard. Being a Japanese powerplant, it likes to crank).

Bottom line, use your Mobil Racing 0w30 if you have no known consumption, and don't worry about it. Just my last two cents worth.

Look at all of the old SL oils that everybody used with the high PH. I never heard of cat poisoning being a huge problem. Now that the new Sm oils came out everyone is so afraid of cat poisoning.

Boy, you sure hit the nail on the head. I feel the same way...but I keep coming back here and reading, and searching for that elusive "best" oil.

Has anyone ever seen a drop in VOA phosphorous levels in a UOA? If the P is still there in the used oil, it's not out poisoning the cat, as long as oil isn't being consumed.

My truck uses zero oil...It's going in.A little knowledge can be dangerous,so they say..If I had never ever come here I wouldn't think twice as to what I put in my engine.I'd probably be using Fram filters too..

Again thanks for everyones input..

I ran Rotella 10w30 in my car this summer in 4,000 miles it did not use any oil. Any other brand of PCMO it uses about a half quart every 2,000 miles. So what oil is going to put more PH into my cat?

i used moblie 1 )W 30 once in my 1995 plymouth neoen last year. REALLy good and fast start ups! a oil flowed really good too! neve rhad an isue and my engine is in ba shape! i ****ched back to 5W30 10W 0 during the summer. thinking of going back to 0W 30 again. my car really liked it, comapred to the restof the oils ive tried.
