Lugs stuck in socket

My lugbolts tend to have surface rust. When I use my socket, they get stuck:

How do I prevent?

Also, after using the unit on my gun (this blue point design has a 3" extension that connects to the centerline of the impact sockets, just a standard 1/2 inch drive), the extension gets stuck in the hole in the socket. I literally need to hammer it out. Any ideas?

Painting the lugs with a bit of anti-seize would probably help. The other alternative is just giving 'em a quick spritz with Krown or a similar product to ward off the corrosion.

Is the extension you are using impact rated?

It will take care of itself with more usage, both ends of the socket will wear.

How's the hex on those bolts? Perfect? If someone at some point in history only had a socket half on, and twisted the hex, that could make it too tight.

Is the socket set up with an indentation to accept the clicky check ball from the extension? Can you achieve better or worse results by putting it on "wrong", if there is such a thing?

I have the HF flavor of those impact sockets, and the indentation is only on one or two of the four corners.

A trick that I've learned is once you've broken them loose, switch directions and gently tighten them. Usually one or two blows from the impact's hammers will know the socket loose and you can reverse them off with much greater ease without them sticking.

This also works with hand tools.

If that's a 19 mm socket, use a 3/4 in (19.05 mm) socket.

As others have said, lube the socket.

If you have to hammer the sockets out normally something is the wrong size. What size is that snap-on socket. 18mm or 17mm. I rarely have any issues with this style setup. Is that a Saab?

But if they are really bad I will just replace them all!!!

The lugs get stuck because of rust or whatnot. The hammer out is the extension that connects the impact gun to the socket (part of the snap-on kit). It came together and is the right size for the hole, by design.

Is the extension tight on just that one socket or all the sockets? If its all, then perhaps the detent ball is too tight. Might soak it in ATF for a day. If its just the one socket, then it's the socket problem.

It's blue point right? Shoud also be able to warranty it if its not working right.

I'd also wire brush the lugnuts just ... Because its there.

I use the 17 and 19, and the extension gets stuck in both.

It happens when a bolt is stuck hard to the wheel, so I have to use the impact for a while.

I used to have one of the coated sets from hf. It would actually get stuck on the impact gun square drive!
