That flat out doesn't work for ANY vehicle you're going to put miles on, nor are any of them usable as a daily.
It is. Compare to low 2.s for most things this size.
Just running the EPA cycle vs full highway will result in better mpkwh.
Still Lucid claims there was a problem with the rear motor/control/charger unit.
You'd think they'd make sure the press fleet cars were nuts on.
At least they are supplying press cars.
As a guy that loses a windshield every 2-3 years Im wondering what that windshield will cost.

When we were looking for a car we almost ordered a fully loaded Camry - that blueish color with the different color roof is amazing. Emerald green whatever.
To get it the way we wanted required ordering it, none were in stock. About two months wait, which was fine with us.
There was a demo one on the lot, 8 months old with 11k miles on it. They were selling it for $3k less than what the new one cost.
I thought who'd be crazy enough to cough that money for it - it was gone a few days later.
The Camry we tried was a great car, but it was about $5-8k overpriced in my book. Only car we tried that had a screw cover on around the rearview mirror that was falling off. Or was it some other cover. It fell during the test drive.
The Toyota tax is very, very real. You pay it at the entrance, get it back at the exit.
In 2010 we traded in our 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante with 54k miles on it for $3500, and it was an absolutely smoking deal - a newer, better one was sitting at another dealership with a For Sale sign at $3700k for months. At that time, a Camry of similar mileage and age was till about three times that.
We had a Camry before the Mitsubishi. The reason my dad went Mitsubishi instead of Camry again was that he got the radio stolen off the Camry once, and for some reason decided it was the car's fault

I bought my 2004 Volvo V70R 6-speed four years ago.
It’s my Colorado car - doesn’t get a ton of miles, but it is going to get driven to work tonight, and it gets used nearly every day I am out here, and is often seen in mountain passes and ski area parking lots.
It’s a daily driver, for all intents and purposes.
And the market for the 6-speed V70Rs has been strong. That car is worth more than I bought it for 4 years ago.
Admittedly, it’s a rare use case, and it doesn’t get a lot of miles, but it has gone up in value.
Maybe. You're not going to buy a new car that retains its value that well and appreciates from there in our lifetimes though. Rarity and desire has to kick in.

The Lucid Air is $1,200-$2,500ish to replace I've read that the Gravity windshield could be as much as $3,000 To replace. What is it made of? It's not like it's a B-2 bomber windshield that has stealth technology baked into it.

From ridiculous fees for lease returns ($2500 for scratches to the bottom of the front bumper that every sedan in the world will have after a week of driving) to ongoing software issues to service taking MONTHS to being stranded multiple times for the same issue.
Sure, every car has issues, and most car groups on social media are only people with problems because happy people don’t post - they just drive, but the percentage of dissatisfied people and how many complaints there are for such a low volume, high price car is insane.
I’m not saying they suck, just, don’t get one. lol.

We have to start someplace I guess to "close the gap" which is right now at a vehicle that cost over $100,000

What happens at a more realistic 80MPH in temps of 40 degree weather? Heck Ill settle for 83 mph in 80 degree weather.
If BEVs are every going to be more than a niche market I think they need to start with a clean slate. I do think one day they will get there but it wont be this battery technology.
Here in Texas also you have distributor adds "Gulf States Toyota" that you can't get away from. I looked at Tundras a few years back and all the 2WD SR5s had been distributor "upgraded" to some off road package that I didn't want. Plus the fact in this particular latest shopping instance in 2023-ish, that the tilt column in the newer Tundras doesn't come up nearly as far as the domestics, and I'm super tall, made it an easy decision to walk. Later when the engine issues started coming, I realized that I'd dodged a bullet anyway.
If you are a big bubba like me the F150 is way more comfortable. Coupled with the engine issues and the distributor adds, it's not too hard to scratch Toyota off the list.
And don't even get me started on the Siennas. I like them, but the local dealers will not even order one that isn't high spec and they are sold out months in advance. There's zero new Siennas on the lot. It's not worth it.

Lucid has been on my shopping list for awhile now and I reached the opposite conclusion based on the Reddit sub feedback. A majority of owners love the car, but they're pissed at the lease return because of unreasonable charges.
The only ones that seem to have software issues are the earliest buyers for both the Air (2023) and Gravity.
My takeaway was don't buy a new model and don't lease. Which works for me because I buy the vehicles once the lease returns start coming back anyway. By most accounts, the car is one of the absolute best EVs on the road. My only issue with it is the low ride height. I really hope the company survives because its technology is some of the best in the industry.

Which 40K car/SUV carries 7 people, goes from 0-60 in 3.4, has 120Sq feet of cargo space, can tow 6K -and I can fill up in my driveway from a plug?
List the vehicles that provide functional equivalency ICE (barring the home charging) or BEV and let's look at the price tags.
I agree 70 isnt a valid highway range speed test. Even the Norwegians use 120KPH as a range test.

I agree, that’s good range. My issue is with the claimed 450 mile range. I prefer companies underpromise and overdeliver vs. the opposite. It’s looking like 450 miles will be almost impossible under any conditions.

I just did drove 5 hours to and from Abilene for a softball camp. On the return trip my speed ranged from 75 to 95. So a 70 mph test is too low for me. The speed limit is 75 mph on major highways in Texas. Out west, it's 80 mph. Using a higher speed for a test, you have an idea what your worst case is, so I prefer the test speeds be higher rather than lower.
Having said that, I took my Expedition for the trip instead of my EV specifically because my EV is 400V and charges comparatively slowly and I was on a tight schedule. The Gravity probably could have aced this test. It was a 370 mile drive so one charging stop under 30 minutes would have worked. I plan my roadtrips around stops every three hours because I know someone will need a bathroom break.

It's the EPA methodology. I think Lucid is using the five cycle test, which provides inflated numbers. But who drives 450 miles non stop? It's probably attainable in mixed driving. That's not a highway only range number.
I'd be willing to bet that's one of the last thing buyers are thinking about when signing to take one home. I was shocked at how many Lexus customers whined about the premium fuel requirement in performance vehicles. It's $110,000 vehicle you cheapskate get over it.
Running up and down the 99 and the 5 here rock damage is part of life. I average a window every 2.5 years.
Buying a premium ride and whining about the fuel is common amongst the " lease it" types.
