Lucas Oil

No doubt that Lucas offers a slew of perfectly serviceable products like power steering fluid, grease, etc. But I'll echo what others have said, that I avoid their brand entirely due to their core products that are deceptive and low quality.

Why give them my grease purchases when other companies that offer nothing but sound products are also selling the type of grease that I need at the same price point?
Your points are valid. For the same reasons you mentioned, I have always avoided all STP products. However, I try to keep an open mind so I can learn new things. That's why I come to BITOG.

Over this past week, I've read many BITOG members liking STP motor oil and several have recommended STP motor oil and Autozone to me. I listened to their points, absorbed what they said, and I've now changed my mind about STP as a brand.

I used to hate on STP as a brand and didn't trust any of their products, but now thanks to BITOG members educating me and updating me, I now would use STP motor oil and Autozone if Autozone is having a competetive sale.

So I reevaluated my thinking about STP. I no longer hate the brand. I still hate the classic STP oil conditioner/thickener goo product, but I'm now open minded to STP motor oil.

I'm just sayin you guys might consider reevaluating your opinions of Lucas like I did with STP. Lucas motor oil is overpriced. So no thank you there, but some other Lucas products are good. Specifically I know Lucas PS fluid and red grease are good.

STP (Amalie) full-syn at Autozone is $27.99 per jug. Mobil 1 ESP at Walmart is $27.97.

Take the "education" on here with a grain of salt.

I do.

I just bought a 5 qt jug of Maxlife Blend 5w30 from Walmart for $19.97 with free shipping because I also ordered some other stuff too. Wally has free shipping on orders over $35.

I learned about the Wally deal from BITOG members. Specifically the free shipping part.

I didn't say I was going to buy STP oil, but I am now open to it, if the price is right or I'm already at Autozone. Though realistically, I buy from Wally, Oreilly, and Amazon due to a combination of convenience and price.

P.S. - Another reason I buy from Oreilly is because it's close to home and the Oreilly manager is great. Recently on a cold winter day a few miles from home, I was stranded with a dead battery. The Oreilly manager delivered and installed a new battery for no extra charge. I love that guy!

Oil is Junk what a stupid comment
He said the oil treatment is junk, and he's correct. It is mostly detrimental to the oil to which it is added by diluting the additive pack and degrading the base stock composition.

If you need thicker oil then buy a thicker oil that's fully formulated. You will do yourself a favor.

Used to get their products for free (knew someone that worked at their factory) and I never had any catastrophic issues with them, but I’d never pay $65 for 6qt of 5w30

In reality, Lucas is considered to have reliable products other than HERE and maybe a couple other forums. A lot of shops like the oil treatment as it quiets a motor. Is the oil treatment good, no but it does sell. I've used the gear oil and had no issues, I've used there fuel cleaners and it's been fine too. I've moved on from there fuel cleaners to Berryman's and Gumout but I kept a large bottle of there fuel system cleaner and added it w every fill up for many years, 20 yrs ago.
Like I said oil treatment nah but they make other products that I would use.

In response to wlk's post above....

I normally don't use fuel treatments, but if/when I do I like to use one made by a tier one gasoline company, such as Shell, Chevron, Union 76, Mobil, Exxon, Texaco etc. Shell, Chevron, or U76 are my go to fuel treatments because they're available locally.

I figure companies that make tier one gas know how to make good fuel additives. I don't add fuel additives if I fill up with a tier one gas, but I can buy fuel cheaper at Fred Meyer (Kroger) or Safeway (Albertsons). I don't think Freds or Safeway gas has tier one additives. So that's when I'll dump in some Chevron, Shell, U76, or other tier one fuel additive.

Same here. If some entity is disingenuous enough to market anything of such poor quality then that reflects on their overall integrity. I couldn't care less what else they might sell.

I don't buy Lucas nor STP products, but in reality the STP Oil Treatment is a better product than the Lucas one. At least it contains some ZDDP.
Exactly. There are plenty of options from companies that don't employ deceptive and deceitful strategies; to prey on consumer ignorance to extract considerable sums of money for product for which the claims of capability are flagrant flaunting of abject fiction.

I learned long ago that Lucas users will be singled out and beat up for daring to mention a Lucas product ........ and yes because of the oil stabilizer

And to the point when I have used it I simply leave it out of my posts and only post or comment when other acceptable brands have been used

Used lots of Lucas in motocross applications as well as PJ1 , Maxima , and Klotz

Lucas 15w40 Magnum Long drain by the 5 gallon buckets
Many many 6 gallon bag in box of Lucas Dexos 5w30

Can you explain it to me like I'm 5 why, if you knew a guy that was intentionally running a scam on the elderly, selling them "blue pills" for $15 that were in fact tic-tacs, why you would, with that information in hand, still choose to over-pay him for commodity product you could buy from myriad other vendors whose business model didn't revolve around scamming people?

Couldn't the same be said about STP?

STP started out making an oil additive that I've never heard anything good about. I've heard several mechanics warn against using it.

But now STP makes motor oil that many people like. How's that any different than Lucas?
Yes, I agree. STP additives are the same garbage mostly. Now Auto Zone using the “STP” name as a house brand is a little bit of a different situation. I’m not sure how the agreement works. All the oils and filters are made by various companies picked by Auto Zone I believe.
