Lubricating fuel system?

Many here use fuel treatment only just before an oil change. I
understand this reasoning since all the gunk will be drained away
soon after. How important though is it to keep the fuel system
lubricated? Should this be done at every fill up with something
like Lucas, or does the occasion treatment keep the plumbing
lubricating for a while? The cleaning part (especially injectors)
I understand, but am confused about the lubrication part,
specifically how often?

If you have ethanol in your gas it has a very strong cleaning ability. This can be good, but it will also pretty quickly wash away whatever lubricant you apply.

I don't really think a normal fuel system needs any lubricant. But if you're interested many people run 2cycle oil at around 500:1, or MMO, and don't seem to have any problems.

I've heard that today's gas attracts moisture and that lubricant
helps counteract the effects of moisture. Any truth to this?

I run 2cycle oil with tcw3 in it all the time in my gas,,once oz to 5 gallons of gas. Super tech 2 cycle oil is 10 bucks and last a long time, try it for a month, but only one oz to 5 gallons of gas.

I have maintained/serviced many EFI cars and none of them suffered from injector or electrical fuel pump failures (granted that the fuel pump was never ran dry before, aka "empty fuel tank"), during my 20+ yrs of automobile servicing. Mind you though: I live in an area where over 80% of the service stations have been E-10 for over 15+yrs, and most of these vehicles have lived past 300,000kms typical before they were scrapped/totalled.

I never believe in the so-called (claimed benefits) of UCL, or lubricating fuel pump/fuel injectors to begin with.

You can add some type of upper cyl/fuel system lubricant if you want- just don't over do it. The suggested 1 oz per 5 gals is plenty and should not mess with your exhaust catalyst. 2 stroke oils would be mainly for lube, not cleaning (unless using some high-end, ester-based stuff). And Lucas is an expensive UCL, if you ask me. It does not do much in the way of cleaning in my experience. Perhaps it will help maintain cleanliness. MMO or Schaeffers Neutra will add some lube and should help maintain cleanliness at 1 oz per 5 gal. Plus, both are reasonably priced when bought in gallons. I alternate between these two in my older gasoline engines. I'm not sure how much good this practice actually does, but it satisfies my urge to tinker and improve the generally poor quality gas we have around here.

I use Lucas in the fuel at a half dose than they recommend. I get better mileage, the fuel pump and injectors are dead quiet and I have even noticed a drop in wear metals related to my piston rings that show up in my used oil analysis while using it.

It's cheap, easy to add to the fuel and keeps things lubricated. Especially because todays E-10 fuels are very dry and strip the oils out of the fuel system due to their cleaning abilities.

MMO or 2 Stroke oil is fine as well, I just like the Lucas because it's cheap and I got the best results with it out of these 3.

I use 2 stroke oil or MMO in my fuel.
But 2 stroke oil is not a cleaner. Proper use will not cause problematic deposits, but it is NOT a cleaner.

run mmo in the gas from time to time. moderately cleans and lubes as well.
