The plastic chain tensioners in the early engines are known to fail. dumping plastic bits into the sump and clogging the oil pickup. Very important with a car of that vintage to drop the pan and do a good cleanout, especially in the pickup tube. At the same time, it is imperitive that you pull the cam covers and check the upper tensioners to make sure they are metal, not plastic. Plastic ones will fail causing the timing chain to jump and ruin the engine.
Low oil pressure!!!
