Well, it looks like things are going to getinteresting here in the retail oil world!

Other retailers have have had it with Wal Mart. O'Reiliy'd already undercuts WM on PP (@3.99/qt). and Advance is looking to go all out after the auto market, while AZ better do something as their sales are on the slide..

This, with WM's "cut" down the oil brands, should make for an interesting summer. I walked in on a"session" about the auto department. While things are different for everyone,(and nothing is final)some things they
mentioned Brands that might go_

QS-(replaced by ST)
PP(replaced by PU)
Motorcrft (replaced by PYB)
RP

IT sounds like they plan to go with pretty much Mobil, Castrol, and Pennzoil

My thought is that companies (like SOPUS) are going to let some of the retailers in on the sale deals..

Also forgot to add Valvoline too....SDynpower might stick around, and the white bottle will for sure. Durablend is gone, and maybe maxlife too (stupid of it sounds), as it looks like lots of M1 products (including HM) PZ HM, and ST HM....

i think advanced, autozone,o'riellys, pep boys are starting to figure it out, when a customer comes in and just buys a oil filter!

1) the customer already bought the oil at walmart!
2) walmart's oil filter selection is inferior especially if you hate fram!

nobody has came close to matching the price of supertech dino! even though alot of the parts stores house brand oils are made by warren to! mike

When I was at my Wal-Mart they said that with PU on the shelves they would phase PP out, the problem is that PP is still selling and the PU is not moving well.

PU should drop to 25 bucks to fix that....

And my wonderful local Wal Mart does not have any PU in the store. Not because they sold out, they have not brought it in at this time. Stupid department manager.

The Pennzoil Ultra Display is FULL and where they keep the 5 quart jugs and quart bottles of PP it is more than half empty.

Yes. I walked in on a meeting with the DM,RM, and the store manager. Decided to "listen" in (as only a BITOGer would do!)

On a side note, also found out Meijer's (here in MI) is wiping the floor with them here....Doesn't suprise me though, as every time I go into one, they are packed...wal mart, sometimes...

Sounds consistant with the WalMart at WyCo. PP was pretty much gone and Ultra section was full. PP was priced $23 though I thought it was closer to $20 the last I seen it.

and don't beat me up too bad guys, just reporting what I heard. Though some of it confirms the rumors I was hearing anyways...

Who is they, and where was the meeting held. If true, sounds like some stupid moves to me. Hopefully it's just a local thing and not a national move.

ST wouldn't be a replacement for QS, IMO. I buy QS but ST wouldn't be it's replacement for me. Dropping MC Syn Blend would be really dumb, a fast mover at my local Wally's.

Though I'm highly skeptical of these being national moves, if this were to happen, I'd be looking more at Advance Auto oil and filter combo deals.

I still haven't seen PU at 4 walmarts here in palm beach county

doesn't make sense to phase out the cheaper, better selling PP for PU..... sure it makes sense to the bean counters, but is the american economy going to go for it at this time? nope.....

is they replaced PP with PU at the same price, they might sell more product

I wouldn't say Oriely's undercut walmart on PP. manufacture sales usually include lower pricing or rebates back to the company. I highly doubt this was because of walmart.

Like I said, it might be different for everyone. This is just for my local area, so far.

And WM changes on a dime anyways...

Maybe. Maybe they are getting a better deal now?

Currently I spend more money for oil products at WM than at the auto chains partly due to convenience / location and partly due to pricing on the 5 Qt jugs. But I have to say if the filter situation at WM does not improve I may be heading to AZ, AA, or OR. It would not take much of an effort for the parts stores to get some customers back. I hope they know that. And if WM gets rid of PP and MC in 5 Qt jugs they will likely lose my oil business entirely.

You mean I am not the only one who just grabs an oil filter at Autozone? Good point!
