Looks like George Russell win may be disqualified in Belgium GP

I had 1955 VW Beetle with a 3/4 race cam and headers and an adjustable Carter carb. I got 46MPG on a Porsche economy run up in the mountains of Arizona. I ended up in 3rd place to a 356 and a Renault because my car was under weight. Result were in MPG/ton and mine was less than a ton. Next year I loaded up river rock and still didn't win to those same two cars that one last time. I tried anyway and it was fun.
 
Probably worn tires and failed to get marbles stuck to knackered slicks. Sorry for the lad, still Anybody but Max.

"Lift and coast" is an important component at Spa. Sounds like he was just a bit too heavy with the throttle. It's really unfortunate, as that was one of the more impressive drives we've seen.

Correct. 798 kg is the minimum weight without fuel.

However, there is a minimum post-race fuel requirement. Cars must have 1 l of fuel remaining at the time of post-race scrutineering to ensure a proper fuel sample can be taken. This 1 l does not count toward the post-race weight.

In the case of George, the car weighed 798 kg with fuel. 2.8 l of fuel were removed from the car, which meets the 1 l minimum, but brought final weight to 796.5 kg. That is a breach of regulations.

He drove a great race. The change in strategy was a gift of circumstance and he maximized the opportunity. Tough break to have that negated by violating a technical reg. That's racing though.
 
The plank wears but then it always wears. Primarily it must have been excessive tyre wear plus another oddity about the Spa circuit.

You know how they usually drive around after the flag picking up rubber debris on the tyres to gain weight. For some reason they can't do this at Spa, maybe because it's a very long lap they go straight to the pits. But the team would have known this, therefore the risk of being underweight must have been known. The team let him down.
 
No team will ever willingly underweight a car with the expectation of picking up clag. Not only is it against the rules to run underweight anytime during the race, a red flag or rain would throw the strategy out the window.
“The mass of the car, without fuel, must not be less than 798kg, at all times during the competition.”
 
I saw that they also weighed his car without the wheels so I think the most likely scenario was that the engineers forgot to install a ballast after removing the old "upgrades"
 
After being under fueled in Hungary qualifying and under weight in this race, Mercedes is taking over the circus clown show from Ferrari.
Hahahhaahahaha. So unfortunately true, but sometimes McClaren wants in on the act!

I mean at the end of Belgium I completely complimented MB on a job well done. Let the leader win, give each other space. Then all heck broke loose. (McClaren.....Hungary - they did it before race end)
 
Got that. My question is how close to 798 do they try to be at race end? 798.5, 800, 805 etc.
Every team, race, is different. Suspension tuning to mitigate bottom plate scrubbing, tire selection and stop strategy (how many stops), plus driver's weight. There are so many variables that contribute to car weight before and after the race.
