I am looking for a oversized filter numbers for my 97 Mitsu Montero with the 3.5 V6. The filter that it calls for is a tiny AC Delco PF1127.

While not IDENTICAL, the Purolator 24458 [discontinued, good luck finding one!] was my favorite. The 20073 is large too, just never found one off the shelf. My '97 Impreza also takes a filter with M20x1.5 threads and I also wanted a larger filter. See my posts at http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=001434#000000 for info on how you MIGHT be able to make your car take the "good bang for the buck", very common, and MUCH larger Motorcraft FL-400S or equivalent filters with 3/4x16 threads.

I think the L20073 has a bigger gasket. It's more like a FLIA gasket size 2.8x OD 2.4x ID ..while the PF1127 has a 2.4X OD and a 2.1X ID.

If you've got a big enough mounting surface it should work

If his Mitsubishi 3.5 is any relation to the 3.0 ..I don't think that he'll be able to switch threads due to the filter mount being (on the 3.0's in the Stealth and the Caravan) being part of a cast piece that bolts on to the engine block.

..but, and if this is the case, he may be able to buy a mount that has 3/4-16 threads. They're $80 at discount from MOPAR. The 92 Stealth (IIRC) came with 20x1.5mm ..while the Caravan came with 3/4-16 sharing the same block.

Its not easy to find new filters in discontinued sizes like 24458 or 20073 made by Fram, Purolator, or brands with limited filter PNs.

Try the wix/napa/carquest/baldwin/donaldson/hastings..for those, discontinued by other brands, PN's.

Try the Wix 51344 or 51347. I wonder if Mitsubishi uses large filter mounts that might have room for something along the lines of an 51626.

Gary, the threaded part and the mounting surface are the same part???

On the 3.0, yes. It's one cast part ..machined, surely ...but all one piece. There's no room for any threads in it.

Looking over the Wix site, it appears that the same deal occurs for the 3.5L If used in a Dodge or Mitsu Eclipse ..it's 3/4-16 (when searched under Dodge). If you start your search under Mitsubishi, you get the same year 3.5 with a M20 x 1.5.

..but $80 is a lot of $$$ for the right to use a bigger filter. I'd do it ..but then again, I have somewhere near 8 heat exchangers that I haven't gotten around to installing on all of the 4 vehicles that I own.
