1. I own a 2013 Mazda 3 skyactiv 2.0
2. Don't have the owner's manual currently, but I know Mazda Recommends a synthetic 0-w20 oil.
3. I live in the Bay Area in California
4. I drive easy and fairly fast
5. I drive mostly on the freeway, commuting to work about 45 minutes everyday
6. My car is brand new, will be my first oil change

I usually ran with mobil 1 in my old car, but maybe there is another oil I should use instead since I'm used to using 10-w30.

Any synthetic 0w-20. In my experience, the most commonly found varieties are Castrol Edge and Mobil 1 AFE.

You could also get some at the Mazda dealer when you're getting the OEM oil filter.

Yeah, the Mazda oil looks pretty good.

You can ask the dealership and see if it is competitively priced.

Otherwise, your previous preference, Mobil 1 in the correct viscosity will work fine.

Be sure to use a good oil filter, best just to use OEM Mazda oil filter on a new car and keep all the receipts and log the change (I still worry when I do all the documentation).

Hello, Funny you mentioned the OEM filter. My sister just bought a 2012 Mazda3i Touring with the Skyactiv 2.0 liter engine (1998 cc.). She has 1,160 miles on it now. Mazda's instruction to use their filter came as no surprise. That there were huge gaps in filter listings among the well known companies makes me think the filter might be somehow different. There were a few companies which crossed an old number to the new Mazda engine. The funny thing was that other filter companies DID NOT cross their own products to the new Mazda engine. That makes me think there might just be different requirements covered by the new filter. It makes me think some companies are more honest than others. Kira

I been using K&N for about a year now and i would recommmend if you find deal on it

PEP boys has buy one get one , brings price down to around 7 a piece

As for oil , you can go with any major brand synthetic and be well protected. Such as mobil1 amsoil or castrol edge.

As others mentioned ask around dealerships to see if you can score a deal on your own oil and filter compared to wallmart prices of oil now days.

There is a recent VOA of the Mazda 0w20 synthetic oil
in the VOA section of this form. It looks like a fine
oil. If it were me, I would use it, & an OEM oil filter.

Look into Motorcraft 5w20 and filter for 22.XX$ @ AAP, Should take the FL910 or the FL400S M/C Filter.
Always ran good in my Ford/Mazda 2.3L

+1, stick with the OE filter in this app. I did a service on a co-worker's new Skyactiv and learned that Wix has not released their filter for this app, while Fram and Champs have both recommended the 6607-style Nissan equivalent for this engine...which may not be correct.
