The screen is 17". The Core 2 did precede the Core 2 Duo; and is the first Intel CPU to be in the MacBook Pro's: Mine was purchased in the summer of '06.
Mine is in the kind of shape you'd expect from a machine that was used for remote audio recording, video production, graphic design and home entertainment 12 - 16h/ day for 5 years; but I have had absolutely zero complaints about the machine and the OS.
I always try, though, to think of my hardware as an expendable commodity and my data as having the real worth.
