Im trying to find a better replacement for a Wix 51258 and so far found a MG Select MSL51258. There is a PGI PG33EX but it's $40 and out of stock. There weren't any other good options that I could find, either with great efficiency like above or with no QC issues. Any other candidates?

They do have the 85522 👍

Both that Microgard Select and Carquest Premium are most likely Premium Guard facilitated filters so they should be excellent but just check for Asian made on the filter.

Not my pic but here are some comparisons of the MG Select to other equivalents. The MSL is a big filter.

How much room do you have? My 1963 Cadillac and my 1976 AMC (232 I6) call for a 51258, but in the case of the Cadillac, I’m running a larger Champion-branded 41060T. Nothing is special about the champion, but I got them for $1 each. I’m using those up first since their non-synthetic media won’t store well for as long. Once those run out, I have a stash of over 50 Fram FPS5 filters. It’s a shop-marketed version of the OG Fram Ultra without the texture. They may be hard to get now, but it and that Champion filter were what my 1985 GMC van (305 V8) called for. So, in short, if you have the clearance, you can run SBC filters (Wix 51060, Fram PH5, etc.) that have an ADBV. That should widen your selection.

I have plenty of room for a bigger filter. The 51049 is longer but lacks ADBV ( which I need, the filter is horizontal). Baldwin B9 does but I don't like the filtration efficiency. There are other 1049 filters but they don't have the filtration efficiency of the PGI products. I believe the Chevy units have either a different nipple thread or gasket size.

Just be careful when you’re upsizing your filter that the one you choose has roughly the same bypass valve setting. It would suck to have a bigger filter that’s just constantly in bypass mode because the setting is way off where it needs to be.
