Longer FL-820 motorcraft filter?

Is there a longer version of the Motorcraft FL820 filter? I want something longer that is easier to get the filter wrench on. There is plenty of room for a longer filter. It's just a bit tight for my old hands to work up there on this relatively short filter. Vehicle is a 2001 Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC

I agree--sort of a head scratcher if the longer ones fit before. I know space is an issue on some applications, but on my explorer sport, I have a ton of room to run a longer filter. I am just looking for ease of removal. The shorter filter is much harder to get the filter wrench to work since I have to angle the handle down to clear stuff. An inch longer filter is so much better

Went with the Wix 51592---by default. I looked for the purolators and longer wix at several stores and the 51592 was the only one I could find, and they had to bring them in from the local warehouse. I guess these are mostly equipment filters or big vehicle filters and the local auto parts stores just do not stock them. I tried to find either the Donaldson, purolator, Hastings, fleetguard and I didn't want to pay 14.99 for the Napa Gold. Very hard to find these filters in stock around here. Bought the last 2 they had.

I normally use the fl820s on my Taurus although right now i am using a champ 400 that I bought for a buck at a flea market with pp. I run the oil a year (low usage) ,but change the filter every 6 months. I have done this on several vehicles and it works great. Why toss good oil. That 3000 mile oil change [censored] does not make sense with the newer oils. I learned a lot about these longer filter substitutions so I don't mind finding what filter works.

Just curious, why are you changing the filter @ 3,000 miles? 6,000 miles is a cake walk for today's filters, except maybe Fram orange can. Why throw away money.
