I'm planning to change the oil on my just acquired Malibu and it calls for a PH9837. I want to find out if there is a longer one that will be the same as PH9837? Thanks. It's for a 2007 Malibu 3500 V6.

I have the same engine. Is there a reason you want the longer filter? I've never had a problem getting to it on mine.

Well, there's always the XG9837

Why not go with a larger filter? I run 15k to 20k miles on my oversize filters. Have ran larger than stock for over 45 years and I use to get 200k miles on the old 67 327ci Chevy I had. Had to re-ring it at 197k miles.

Take a look at a Baldwin B30, it a little over 1" longer than stock.

Go somewhere that stocks lots of brands and I bet you'll find that there is a difference in length even for filters matching the PH9837 spec. If you search around on this site you'll also find that different brands can differ a lot in how big the filter element is in the can, though that can be misleading because sometimes the shorter filter element makes up for it with a greater number of pleats and more length. IMHO the advantages of a larger filter are probably marginal, though I use a couple that are oversize. In one case it gives me a better grip on the filter and means the engine can take the full 5Qt. jug at fill up. In another case, the specced filter is so small it makes me feel inadequate.

Those are kinda a oddball filter, not sure if there's even such a thing as longer than what it already has. I think this filter was only ever used for a handful of GM engines, wasn't it?
