I'm building a higher performance Kawasaki VN1600 V-twin engine. Goal is to get the meager 64 crank horsepower up to 95, with higher compression pistons, reprogrammed engine ECU, intake/exhaust, hotter cams/larger valves, bigger throttle body. So cooling is planned as well, as I'm adding an oil cooler in addition to the stock water cooling. To add the oil cooler I am using an oil filter mount adapter with ports for hoses routed to the oil cooler. The stock oil capacity in the wet sump engine is 3.5 qts. The oil cooler and hoses may add 0.50 qt.
The area for the spin on oil filter could easily allow for a filter at least twice the length of the current short filter. So I am researching a much longer oil filter, not so much for the added filter element but also for the slightly more total oil capacity in the engine. The goal is to simply add more oil volume for the engine and transmission.
